Runhe Seal-API Plan 21 & Mechanical Seal Solutions
What is API Plan 21?
API Plan 21 is a cooled recirculation flush plan defined by API 682-. It is specifically engineered for high-temperature process services where the hot fluid cannot sustain stable seal operation without supplementary cooling.
How Does API Plan 21 Work?
The system draws process fluid from the pump discharge, routes it through a restriction orifice for flow limitation, and then through an API 682 Plan 21 heat exchanger-. This reduces the fluid temperature before delivering the cooled flush fluid into the mechanical seal chamber.
Why Choose API Plan 21?
As a cooled derivative of Plan 11, its primary duty is cooling the flush fluid and stabilizing the mechanical seal end faces-. This function:
Suppresses process fluid vaporization
Reduces coking formation at elevated temperatures
Maintains intact lubricating liquid film between mating seal faces
These are necessary conditions to achieve low-leakage, long-term reliable seal service.
Custom Solutions from Dandong Runhe Seal Co.,Ltd.
We provide custom seal support system solutions- with properly sized Plan 21 heat exchangers for various high-temperature pumping services. As a professional mechanical seal manufacturer, we can design the right system for your specific needs.

John Crane Celebrate 50 Years of Dry Gas Seals
In 1976, the introduction of the Type 28 dry gas seal transformed compressor reliability and set a new global benchmark for sealing performance, safety and efficiency. While pioneering work on non-contacting spiral-groove technology began in 1968, and the first commercially installation was achieved in 1975, it was the introduction of the Type 28 dry gas seal in 1976 that created a true turning point for the industry. Since then, dry gas seals have become essential components in centrifugal compressors across applications such as oil and gas, petrochemicals, power generation and, increasingly, hydrogen and carbon-capture applications. Over the past five decades, continuous innovation has extended sealing performance into new pressures, temperatures and operating conditions. Advances have included bi-directional grooves, ultra-high-pressure capability up to 425 barg / 6164 psig, new materials such as Carbon LF™ and digital diagnostics made possible through John Crane Sense® Turbo, enabling real-time condition monitoring and predictive insights. Sustainability has also become a defining element of sealing technology. Wet-to-dry gas seal retrofit programmes have delivered CO2 reductions of around 278,000 tonnes per year in certain customer applications, while modern dry gas seals can reduce methane and fugitive emissions by up to 95% when replacing traditional oil-lubricated wet seals. The latest separation seal designs, such as the Type 93AX further reduces nitrogen consumption by up to 80% compared to traditional carbon ring assemblies, supporting operators’ energy efficiency goals. “Dry gas seals transformed compressor reliability and set a new industry standard in 1976,” said Rubén Álvarez, President of John Crane. “Our 50-year anniversary not only celebrates a milestone in engineering innovation but also recognises the continued dedication of our global teams and the customers who have trusted our technology for decades. We remain committed to advancing sealing solutions that support reliability, efficiency and the future of sustainable energy.” Throughout 2026, John Crane will mark the anniversary with the release of technical papers, global customer stories, historical reflections, and multimedia content celebrating the evolution of dry gas seal technology from its pioneering origins to today’s advanced sealing solutions engineered for the next generation of energy. www.johncrane.com
New YouTube video: What is a mechanical seal?
The John Crane video explains the concept of mechanical seals, starting with their role in water pumps to prevent leakage of liquids and gases. It highlights the importance of these seals in maintaining pressure within systems.
John Crane launches a new service tool for rotating equipment
John Crane today unveiled ‘Performance Plus’ - a new generation of modular service framework that “optimises and drives measurable performance improvements”, acc. to a company’s press release. According to Deloitte, unplanned downtime costs industrial manufacturers an estimated $50 billion every year, with equipment failure accounting for over 40% of those losses. As industries face mounting pressure to maximise asset performance, reduce emissions, and meet stricter regulatory and sustainability targets, “the launch of ‘Performance Plus’ marks a decisive step forward in helping them operate smarter, safer and more efficiently.2 “We are evolving from a supplier of components to a strategic partner in performance. The focus is on measurable outcomes, increased uptime, safer operations and a lower emissions and total cost profile across the asset lifecycle” said Philippe Lambert, Vice President, Commercial & Service, John Crane.
‘Performance Plus’ unites local expertise with global reach to deliver tailored service solutions that adapt to every customer’s operational reality. At its core, the framework combines data driven monitoring, expert consultancy and hands-on training to help customers reduce downtime, boost reliability and strengthen long-term resilience. Central to this approach are John Cranes Seal Reliability Management contracts, long-term service agreements designed to help customers achieve continuous reliability improvement and predictable maintenance costs through proactive seal monitoring and support. Through advanced diagnostics tools such as ‘Sense Turbo’, the company has already delivered more than 1 million hours of active remote monitoring in the field, proving the real-world benefits of predictive maintenance and digital innovation in turbomachinery. Alongside this technology-led insight, John Crane’s technical specialists provide practical, data-backed advice to simplify complex maintenance decisions and enable customers to make smarter, faster and more sustainable choices. Complementing this, the framework training and upskilling programme ensures that customer teams are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to maintain performance, safety and efficiency for the long term. “Industry servicing shouldn’t exist in silos,” added Philippe. “Performance Plus delivers an integrated, customer-centric approach that brings together smart technology, data insights and human expertise to keep operations running smoothly, reliably, safely and sustainably. That’s what service excellence looks like in the modern era.” www.johncrane.com/en/performance-plus
