This vegan Philly steak meat recipe uses vital wheat gluten to make a meaty texture and savory flavors that taste like real Philly steak. You can use it on salads, in sandwiches, or as a wrap topping.
Ingredients: 1 cup vital wheat gluten. 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast. 1 teaspoon onion powder. 1 teaspoon garlic powder. 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika. 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper. 1/2 cup vegetable broth. 2 tablespoons soy sauce. 1 tablespoon tomato paste. 1 tablespoon olive oil.
Instructions: Vital wheat gluten, nutritional yeast, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper should all be mixed together in a bowl. Mix vegetable broth, soy sauce, tomato paste, and olive oil in a different bowl using a whisk. Mix the dry ingredients with the wet ones until a dough forms. For about 5 minutes, knead the dough until it gets stretchy. Cut the dough into small pieces and press each one out into a thin steak. While the pan is hot over medium-low heat, cook the steaks for five minutes on each side, or until they are browned and done. When the steaks are done, cut them thinly to make them look like Philly steak meat.
