all I could think of in Vietnamese class today was how great this story would be as a yoi fic???? Becuz this girl from the book - Kiều- is legit Yuuri but not Yuuri (if you get what i mean)???? Like she’s smart and talented and has a moral standard legit she can do poetry, instruments and she can sass the shit outta people and she’s nice like she doesnt fucking exist irl it’s just impossible to find someone like that.

And her fiance - Kim Trọng (or husband im not sure becuz old Vietnamese is mixed with Chinese and a bunch of idioms and stories that I dont understand) - is basically Victor and you can’t tell me otherwise becuz he’s smart af, handsome and so incredibly adorable and head over heels in love with her that it’s too much (keep in mind this was written 200 years ago and I would dare say that Romeo needs a lesson from him on how to find girls) and just saying HE RESPECTS THE SHIT OUTTA HER - I mean it’s 200 years old and the characters are so contemporary I’m fucking amazed. 

Yeah but then the book isnt about their love life but about her struggle through all the bull crap such as selling herself to pay back her father’s debt and also being sent to the brothel twice (thrice?). Amazingly when she reunited with Kim Trong at the end of the book in 15 years, he still wants her as his wife but she’s like, “let’s just be friends” and basically that guy never got to touch her becuase she legit controls him. (And also imagine how girls are and imagine when I read that Kieu basically visited her fiance when her parents were out COMPLETELY UNAWARE that they were engaged and then she came back at dusk in case they came back but then they havent so she basically just shut the doors and WALKED BACK TO HER FIANCE’S PLACE BY HERSELF IN THE NIGHT like lady you got guts).

(And basically ppl back then were like, “This is some porn shit!” And legit everyone now praises it and we have to study it. )

Not that I’m against you for writing something that is really OOC (like it’s cool, my first few fics were like that! I get it!), but then sometimes it just really gets on my nerves when they really abuse their powers as writers to just create a character to their liking and slap a well known character’s name on it to get reads. It’s just really really cringey! And especially for Jason’s character (as I’ve been reading these fics of him) who, i found, was basically butchered. 

Jason Todd’s character is pretty transparent in the comic, as I’ve seen. If he loves or hates something, he says it, unless it’s daddy problems then, well… blame Bruce because it’s always Bruce’s fault that his kids can’t talk about their feelings (Just KIDDING! He basically planned for 2 years to break it to Bruce that he’s a horrible dad, which I call dedication and obsession). Jason is honestly a really decent guy, in case you haven’t read RHATO N52 and Rebirth, then you should- especially Rebirth which we clearly see this! And thennnnnnn, i walk into a fic with a decent summary and I see already Jason’s being a total dickhead to a girl LIKE PLEASE READ RHATO N52 AND TELL ME HOW THE HELL HE IS A DICKHEAD TO THAT GIRL HE WAS SORT OF DATING? LIke please explain to me how he is such a douchebag to that girl?Or to that kid on the street? Or to Bizarro (REBIRTH ISSUE 5ish READ IT!) 

There are those R rated fics with elements of the character but then being completely… not Jason? It’s basically everything that the fandom loves about him (the dark humour, sarcasm and also the empathy and care he has for others,etc) removed entirely from him. Like okay, dirty talk, fine! Graphics stuff? Okay! And then he’s doing something completely out of character (like idk shooting a kid, for example) and I just really don’t understand why you would keep his background story when you’re just gonna kill his personality in the writing? If you want to do that, just write another character altogether. I get that the appeal for OC is really low for websites like FFN, but seriously, why bother? At least create character development if youre gonna do that, but some people just straight up go into ‘Jason laughed at the girl, “Slut, you’re asking for it.” (and then cue bad nsfw and me cringing).
