Ever since I heard that there was another human in Devildom I was brimming with excitement. When I heard the word âmagicâ my heart leaped. Could it be? Humans can actually use magic? My mind wandered around imagining how King Solomon would look like. Considering he was to study with me, I couldnât conceive him being an old man of white beard, but I couldnât imagine him being anything else. Hence, when I saw such a good-looking guy, I could only stay perplexed and smile awkwardly afterward. But he was nice as well and didnât make a big deal about it.
A few months into the exchange program we were relatively close, âwe humans need to stick togetherâ, and I often went to Purgatory Hall so we could study together. Of course, that was my excuse to be close to him. Truth be told, I was falling in love with this white-haired magician. I loved the way he teased me, and his witty comments, he made me feel calm and⌠at homeâŚ
But he was THE Solomon and thinking that he could feel the same was a really long shot. So I was content just receiving his help with class, even when I didnât really need it.
âSolomon?â I called for him, everyone was retrieving their things since the class was over. He looked at me and smiled.Â
âWhat is it?â
âI still donât get this problem, could you explain to me?â
âSure, Luke said he was going to try making some new recipe today, Iâm sure he would be happy for you to taste it.â I felt my face glowing.
âReally!? Yey! Come on, letâs go!â I grabbed his hand jumping in place, once he was ready I started to run dragging him along. Luke was just as excited when he saw me coming, he transformed his face into a serious expression and rolled his sleeves while walking to the kitchen.
He explained to me different exercises over a couple of hours, I couldnât stop hearing his voice. Finally, Lukeâs new dessert was ready, so we decided to take a break while eating. His room had all kinds of magic books, but it wasnât stuffed like Satanâs, it was rather tidy and cozy.
âWhat are you looking thatâs so interesting?â his grin made me blush.
âI-Iâm sorry, didnât mean to stare.â
âItâs okâ he took the last sip from his tea, I had already finished my cake. âSo⌠MCâ my eyes enticed him to continue âwhy are you here?â. I knew he knew when the grin never left his face, so I took my only option left: lie terribly as only I can do.
âI-I mean, w-why would I have a reaâŚ? Oh! Math of course! We are here because of math. Havenât you spend the last couple of hours teaching me? Oof, who wouldâve guessed youâre so silly, Solomon.â The words came fast out of my mouth while I laughed awkwardly, and I ended up grabbing my cup of tea and raising it to my lips.
âYour cup is empty.â
I stopped on my tracks. Indeed it was empty, since a while ago. I didnât have to see his grin to know that it was growing on pair with my blush, but I did have to lower my cup eventually, and when I did, my eyes were fixated on it.
âWh⌠how did you notice?â was the only murmur my voice could articulate.
âBecause you started to ask my help with things you already knew.â I fidgeted with my hands.
âIâm⌠sorryâŚâ my voice came softly and shy. I was sure he was enjoying seeing me squirmish, but his smile was actually full of sweetness, one that Iâve never seen before on him. My hands broke in sweat, my breathing became heavy. Then his face turned serious.
âYou know⌠you donât need to be sorry, it actually makes me happy that you feel like that.â
âDoes it?â I almost jumped from my seat on the floor.
âYes.â The silence lingered for a few seconds, my mind seemed to have launched at least 50 questions in that short time. Most of them were: âhow does he feel?â, but I couldnât bring myself to ask any of them.
âWe should finish this study session.â His words broke my illusion, and I blinked into reality. Yes, math, of course.
We kept working on silence, there was nothing else I could ask him. At this point, I was working on auto mode, for my mind was extremely busy thinking. Did this mean that I canât hang out with him anymore? What am I supposed to do from now on? I couldnât just say that I wanted to go out with him⌠could I?
The study session finished before I could start answering questions.
âIâll walk you to the House of Lamentation.â I didnât know how to feel about it, but soon I noticed that it didnât matter because we each kept silent until we reached the gates.
âThank you for your help, Solomon.â
âIt was nothing, you didnât need it anyway.â I smiled, hiding my hair behind my ear. âSoâŚâ I looked at him, expecting what was next. âDo you want to do something tomorrow? I heard there is a limited special in Hells Kitchen.â My eyes grew big.
âLike⌠like a date or something?â My nails dug onto my hands almost hurtfully. He laughed, it was refreshing. His slight blush stopped me from breathing.
âYes⌠like a date⌠or something.â
âSure!â I answered almost too fast.
âThen Iâll come around 8?â
âSounds perfect!â my smile was surely too much.
âFine.â Time seemed to stop when he got near me. When his lips touched my cheek, my heart dropped to my stomach. âSee you tomorrow then.â Solomon turned to leave.
âSee you⌠tomorrowâŚâ he was gone.
Next, I was running through the entrance and halls. I could hear the brothers calling me but my mind was only focused on one thing: I have a date with Solomon! Nothing could ever put down my smile at that moment. At least not until my next big worry came to my mind: what am I going to wear?
