Luke doesn’t do big gestures often

He’s more about the little things — holding your hand, opening the door for you, making sure you have enough groceries, asking about your day

The way that he can make you feel special in small ways is one of your favorite things about him

But there are times when he really goes all out — like for your birthday

Luke LOVES birthdays

He never had a lot of presents growing up, but Aunt Beru always made the day fun by reducing his chores, making his favorite meal and maybe — if Uncle Owen wasn’t around — putting on some music

She was the one who first taught him how to dance, mostly out of curiosity to see if he had inherited his mother’s grace

(He had of course, as well as the agility of his father)

On your birthday this year, you told him you just wanted a quiet night in with him

When you come home from work, you open the door to find that your little Coruscanti flat has been completely transformed

There’s a holoprojection of a waterfall from your home world on the wall, and on the wall you can see a real-time view of the stars overhead

He’s strung up fairy lights and lit candles to give the whole area a cozy feeling

Luke steps out from the hallway when he hears you enter, dressed in his blacks

He takes your hand and pulls you to him, gently, letting his free hand wrap around your shoulder

Luke starts to lead you in a simple waltz

It’s always chaos before a mission. But with the end of the war seemingly at grasp, it’s as if the Rebel base is more chaotic than usual. People are running around, trying to figure out who is going where, and when things should be done, and what was the signal again?

But you’re not focused on that, no. You already got your details for the mission memorized the night before. Instead, your eyes look over the crowd to look for someone. It’s the unmistakable black suit that lets you know you've found who you’re looking for.

You rush over to him, hoping to catch him before he has to leave. His back is turned to you, and by the time he’s reached you, he’s just finished his conversation with Wedge, who’s jogging over to his X-Wing.

You place your hand on Luke’s shoulder, causing him to turn to face you. His face instantly brightens with the smile that never ceases to take your breath away.

“I wanted to wish you luck before you leave.”

Luke smiles again, his hands coming up to take a hold of your arms.

“Thank you, I always know my mission will go well if I see you beforehand.”

You feel your face heat up at his words, and hope, for his safety, that he’s right.

“Please be careful,” you say, your attempts at hiding your worry falling flat.

Luke’s smile softens at your obvious concern, and he squeezes your arms softly.

“I’m always careful. Have to come back to see you, don’t I?”

You chuckle lightly. “Yes, you do, Skywalker. Always.”

“Always,” he repeats.

You hear someone yell for Luke that it’s time to go, both you and Luke turning to see it’s Han calling him.

“I’ll be right over!” Luke answers. The two of you turn back to look at each other, and as if you coordinated it, the both of you lean in and kiss.

It’s fast, a peck on the lips. But it leaves your lips tingling, and without thinking, your hand comes up to them lightly. You’re not sure what came over you to kiss Luke, especially without any form of hesitation.

If Luke is surprised by your actions or his, he doesn’t show it. Instead, he smiles again, a small laugh escaping his lips.

“I’ll see you when I get back,” he says.
