there was a common saying the humans liked to parrot. be careful what you wish for —— or something to that effect, anyway. of course, it was nothing short of utter nonsense, in beelzebub’s opinion. yet another way to keep one from getting what would make them happy. any desire worth lusting after came with its share of consequences —— the trick was to learn how to avoid them. after all, what was the point of living if one couldn’t get what they wanted?
and if the boy wanted blood, well... beelzebub was more than happy to oblige.
❝ there’s hardly any reason to look so grim, little one. ❞ the demon spoke in a sickly sweet tone. ( words dripping with poisoned honey. ) her blood felt like it was boiling beneath her skin —— in anticipation, beelzebub could only assume. a being such as herself would never fall victim to something as silly as empathy, after all. yet, it would be a lie to say the thought of tearing apart the waste of flesh and bone she had heard so much about wasn’t an awfully enticing one. a bit too enticing, if she was being entirely honest. the fly was half-inclined to do so herself if mortimer rejected her offer.
ah, but she was getting ahead of herself. ❝ you do realize who you’re speaking to, don’t you? i was born in hell, dear. ❞ had even called it her kingdom, once. ❝ hunting down a soul filled with that much concentrated sin would be akin to child’s play. ❞
