I've shared some #topwork successes, how about my biggest failure ever??? Heed my warning, #californiacider apple growers. #Dabinett is too high chill, especially for this coastal hilltop orchard. In 2014, I did 4 weeks of #framework, dozens of trees, over 2000 grafts, planted new Dabs on 5 different rootstocks, and the only year they grew was that first one, when the scions got their #chillhours in WA, NY, and the fridge. I got 15# of fruit that year, and don't expect any more ever. They break buds in August, if they do at all. Luckily I left much of the host trees intact. Climate change is real. Don't forget 2015. Leave the Dabinetts to our friends in Colder climes. #nope #experiments #McDabs #vulturehill
