Union Cabinet Approves ₹1,600 Crore M-CADWM Scheme to Modernize Irrigation Under PMKSY
In a significant step towards transforming India’s agricultural irrigation system, the Union Cabinet has approved ₹1,600 crore for the Modernisation of Command Area Development and Water Management (M-CADWM) scheme. This sub-scheme will function under the umbrella of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) and will be implemented for the fiscal years 2025–2026.
Scheme Highlights:
Focus on efficient water delivery to farm lands
Development of pressurised underground piped irrigation systems
Water delivery directly to farm gates, supporting up to 1 hectare
Strengthening micro-irrigation infrastructure for sustainable agriculture
This initiative is aimed at improving water-use efficiency, boosting agricultural productivity, and supporting farmers with modern irrigation technology. M-CADWM will act as a back-end support system for micro-irrigation, promoting climate-resilient farming and reduced water wastage.
