Spent most of the day travelling, caught a plane 10pm in murcia spain going to london, arrived in london midnight, had to wait 8 hours until next flight, went to a hotel close to the airport, slept for 5 hours, caught another flight and finally arrived in sofia super tired 2pm. Explored a little bit, tried to rest for a bit... In the end, didn’t have much time for a task so wanted to pick something quick...

I’ve been meaning to model the chick that Kristina drew for a while and figured it’d be fairly simple since it was pretty much an angry ball. I was fairly wrong and it ended up taking way longer than I expected... I should start timing my tasks, but I believe it tooke me somewhere between 3 and 4 hours. Making the pieces was fairly straight-forward, connecting the pieces instead of just having it be a colleciton of separated objects took longer.

In the end pretty satisfied with the result, can’t wait to see this angry guy running around flapping it’s wings all angry for being turned into a chick.

So today was the first day of my “one task a day”. However it was also the second day of playing Divinity Original Sin 2 with the girlfriend (That game is amazing! And so addicting!). I ended up starting my task of the day pretty late in the day, around midnight.

I broke down the tasks I believe are needed for the initial playable prototype. For that I like using Google Spreadsheets (I like the simplicity of it, don’t like creating tasks and moving them around in Trello). This is my spreadsheet.

I picked a task I judged would make a big enough of a difference but I still could do fairly quickly since I was just going to do a quick task before sleeping. Since our character doesn’t really have legs, rigging it is fairly simple.

In maya the little Wisp doesn’t look nearly as good, it just has a really simple shape and all of the good looks come in Unity with the Shaders. I added a couple extra bones down to animate the bottom separately, one bone in the center for the COG, and bones up for spine/head. Other than that just regular clavicle/shoulder/elbow/hand setup for the arms.

For animating I use Akeytsu, so I don’t need to create the controls in maya, I just export the FBX to akeytsu and am ready to animate over there.

Animation itself will be my next task, probably the task of tomorrow. For now I’m happy with my little rigged wisp.
