We say goodbye to Maya Maloff, Daniel Jaffke and Philip Seymour Hoffman, who all recently passed away within 6 days of each other. Maya Maloff aka Maya Rilkoff was a singer-songwriter from Canada who passed Monday, January 27, 2014. Since the beginning of the Chris Brake Show, Maya has been calling in and leaving us messages about her life. We even got to interview her live on the show once, which was awesome. She left us one final voice mail message the day before she died, and we wish we could have talked to her one last time. She was an amazingly interesting and fun spirit, and she will be greatly missed.

Maya Maloff aka Maya Rilkoff

Daniel Jaffke was a local Indianapolis musician who passed away Friday, January 31st. He played in Two O’Clock Twilight and other bands. His music was truly one of a kind and his voice was very soulful and emotional. We play some of Daniel’s music on the show and talk about a little-known skateboard trick he invented called the “Dirty Pop.” Jaffke’s family has set up a memorial fund which you can donate to here, and the Rock House in Indianapolis is holding a special Daniel Jaffke Memorial Show on March 14th with 100% of the door going to Daniel’s family members. Daniel was truly a great creative force that Indianapolis will miss.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was a famous American actor who passed away Sunday, February 2nd 2014. He’s been in over 50 movies, including Scent of a Woman, Twister, Boogie Nights, The Big Lebowski, Patch Adams, Magnolia, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Almost Famous and Punch-Drunk Love. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his work in Capote. Philip Seymour Hoffman’s talents will be greatly missed.
