+ OPHELIA (@kinderdays )
MORNING, FRIDAY 13TH MAY. GRAND TETON MALL. “Do you have inventory done yet?” Mara greets Ophelia, walking into their small office space within the pharmacy-turned-hospital. It's mid-morning but it's already humid, small tendrils of hair sticking to the back of her neck. The temperature will keep climbing but it's only a precursor to the coming summer months. When heat rolls off of pavement in waves and dirt roads cook under the sun. "I can help if not." She offers, already setting down her patient roster clipboard for one of several inventory binders beside Ophelia.
“Richard is still sleeping. His fever broke earlier, maybe around four or five? I’ll check on his leg when he’s up.” She’d been here through the night shift but given their limited staff, it was only fair they traded off. As she picks up one of the binders, snagging the pen from her clipboard, Mara glances over at Ophelia. “How’s your mom, by the way? Allergies better?” She’d insisted Ophelia take a handful of cough drops the other week. Expired or not, they would do more than guzzling water rations to alleviate a sore throat. How did that work? The world ended and allergies were still a bitch.
I have you and you have my heart but I still feel lonely.
