⚔️ Prompts for Lots of Yearning // CLOSED ⚔️
Bold words coming from one such as John.
For as long as he'd known the priest, he had never been one for grand displays of affection. He wasn't an artist or a poet, certainly not a dramatic romantic that dreamt up grand displays of his love to showcase to his partner in a bid for attention. No, that was more Gary's style. He was bombastic, opulent, eye-catching in how he chose to show his affections. He made a scene of showing his devotion to John at every opportunity he was granted.
John was more timid. More reserved. He preferred the quiet intimacy of a private setting to whisper a sincere I love you or rest his head on Gary's shoulder. His devotion was better displayed through the loyalty and shy touches he offered Gary. He followed his every word as though it spilled from God himself. He practiced every movement as though guided by his lover on strings. And when the moment was right, he dutifully returned his kisses and snuck some of his own in subtle ways that only he would see. His shyness, his urge to treat everything they had as some great secret that would erupt in scandal if it were to ever be discovered amused Gary. And stroked his ego.
He liked being John's dirty little secret.
"Ah, that is one aspect of mortal living that I have so enjoyed observing. It is such a mystery," he mused, turning over the glass dagger in his hands as he cleaned it. "The bonds of love are something I have studied extensively. They are so different between mortals and non-mortals. And so inconsistent. Between the thousands of relationships I've studied, it has always appeared differently. As if love is as unique as the people who share it."
A chuckle escaped him. "Perhaps that is the beauty of such an intangible force. It is something so flexible, so adaptable, and so versatile, that people can share the exact same lives and experiences and still share a connection so vastly different from any other. That sort of power is enigmatic and beautiful. It is no wonder then, why you mortals dedicate so many songs and stories to it. It is something worth worshiping."
He set down his weapon to stalk closer to John, catching his chin between his forefinger and thumb and tilting his head up to meet his eye. The blush that overtook John's face was positively gorgeous, and it only made Gary grin wider.
"After all, it brought me to you." He purred, closing the distance between them.
