Pokemon Mystery Dungeon -
It was one thing to fall asleep on your face with a pillow along your cheek and a blanket over your body. It was another to find yourself cheek-first in a puddle. A puddle that was steadily growing due to the pouring rain you found yourself in, making you jerk yourself awake in shock and displeasure.
It was one thing to be bipedal and capable of using flat feet to run about to search for shelter. Perhaps a building or a particularly thick tree. It was another to try and stand up using what you thought were arms and knees, only to find four "feet" supporting you, made far smaller for wintry environs that they could effortlessly stay above multiple feet of snow using. So when you stand up on your "legs", you end up flopping straight onto your back, your legs not meant to support you that way for long at all. A faint splash echoes out as you land in the steadily growing puddle again, squirming about to right yourself.
Rose had just encountered both of these extremely strange differences in what she was used to. How she had landed here did not make a lick of sense, because she didn't seem to have any memories in her noggin that didn't entail the word "human", which she felt she was, or "Rose", which also felt fitting for her. A glance about, and she found a less disturbed puddle to try and get a look at herself. It was dark, yes, but she found herself keenly capable of seeing better even with the low light and rainy setting.
And what she found... was a foxish snout staring back at her. White fluffiness surrounding her face as she blinked and shuddered, blue eyes going far wider in the shock displayed upon her face. Her jaw dropped, and she saw fangs lightly poking out from both top and bottom. She plapped a paw into it to try and reset the view somehow... but as the water settled again? Nope. Still a white-furred fox. she had a sort of "scarf" of fluff upon her chin, and a large tuft of fur swirling upwards, tipped red and looking almost... spectral.
As her eyes scanned about, she found herself being instinctually able to walk about using all fours. Her brain might've assumed she was able to walk on her hind legs at first, but without thinking about it... she was just... walking. Like it was nothing. Like she had always had this body. It was strange to think about, but what was thankfully not strange was the sight of lights.
She had come up to a hill, and just below her was the distinct light of a torch. It was too bad the lip of the hill was actually closer to an "awning" in front of an entryway. Made of grass and dirt. And when that got wet... it got slippery. So down she went with a yelp, landing right in front of a wooden door built into the side of the cliffside she had just dropped a good story from. Her light stature made it less damaging, but it still hurt like hell.
And right as she looked up, the door opened, showing a small Riolu poking their head out. Golden eyes stared down at her from behind the white fur on their own body, and with a slow blink, they took in the sight of a muddied, thoroughly soaked fox who looked about ready to cry as they looked up in shock and unease. Upon locking eyes with each other?
The Riolu sighed through their snout, reaching down and motioning them inside with the door held open. "... don't hafta look so pitiful, c'mon in..."
