MAX BMW Customers Prepare to hit 200 MPH
Ever dreamed of going as fas as you can on a motorcycle? We have. And so have a couple of our friends.
This week, Tom Bergh and Richard Whitehead are at the old Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, ME.
The former air base is close to the Canadian border and has been used by Land Speed Record competitors for many years as an East Cost alternative to Bonneville.
The LTA Racetrack is currently the longest asphalt LSR surface available in the world today.
Tom and Richard will both be running BMW S1000RR motorcycles that have been prepped and spec’d at MAX BMW for the goal of exceeding 200mph.
Although the bikes are essentially stock, gearing has been selected carefully and compute to allow them to run close to 210mph when the engines are producing medium power and RPM.
MAX BMW has tuned the ECU of each bike to give a substantial horsepower and torque increase, along with higher RPM limit.
The bikes have been safety wired to meet regulations. Both are running lightweight race bodywork and Akrapovic exhaust systems. Otherwise, these are production motorcycles.
Each rider has recently take the opportunity to get a little shakedown time at local track-days and reports are enthusiastic!
On Wednesday, July 12th, Tom and Richard will be making their qualifying runs between 3:00 and 5:00pm.
As newcomers to the track, they must qualify at progressive speed ranges, increasing from 149mph by 25mph increments prior to making their top speed runs.
Weather reports are promising and based on results from this afternoon, Tom and Richard will decide which day to make their 200mph attempts.
For now, they are planning on Friday, and MAX BMW will be joining them to provide technical support and event coverage.
We will be updating our blog and social media as updates come in over the next few days.
