Ok let's break this down Max Millan is a Heterosexual Man. He is only interested in women. Sonny is his exception BUT THE THING IS Sonny isn't even really a man because he's nonbinary but on first impressions he is a Man and Max knew him before he considered himself nonbinary and they both see Sonny as a Guy not a Man but a Guy and a Guy is still a far cry from what Max is usually into AKA The Ladies. and also Sonny is intersex so he has a very feminine body but he also has a dick so basically to Heterosexual Max Millan he is Confusing bc Max is very much attracted to this Guy but he has never been attracted to a man before but also Sonny isn't even really a man but he has the appearance of a man but also he doesn't. See that's already 4D chess right there. That's some level 8 queer stuff. Shows that sexuality is fluid and that nobody is Solely attracted to one gender there has to be at least One Person that breaks someone's perception of their sexuality. In this case it's disgraced bank robbery Sonny Wortzik.

And THEN there's the fact that they aren't actually really boyfriends. Like they aren't dating and they don't consider themselves dating they're just Best Friends who have sex and are very close with each other. this is partially because Max is aromantic and Sonny is chill with this despite not being aromantic himself because he also doesn't consider their relationship a romantic relationship bc he's been in a romantic relationship and whatever they have is Not like that. and he's still fulfilled because he loves his best friend and his best friend loves him and they have a awesome life so why would he complain. Like they love each other that's all that matters

That's what makes Max and Sonny so juicy is the fact that like what is even happening there. On the surface they're typical big man small man yaoi but that is actually a lie because what they have going on is much more complicated and rich

My side rant is that people when writing aromantic relationships need to acknowledge the fact that it is still an AROMANTIC relationship. Like a lot of people will use the excuse that "oh aromantic people can still date so it's ok" when writing aromantic characters in relationships but what they need to understand is that there will be a Distinct Difference in the way a relationship with an aromantic person/aromantic people function vs an allo relationship and a difference in the way the people in it will VIEW the relationship. Like aromantic people don't stop being aromantic once they enter a relationship that might be perceived as romantic y'know what I mean. They can do things that could be perceived as typically romantic but there Will Be a difference. As a professional aroace individual I have the power to speak about this

most importantly can we acknowledge the fact he was Also Definitely sexually assaulted in prison. Francis has his comment to Max where he goes "in prison, no women right, so howd you get laid?" and Max fully just Stops and glares at him and ends the conversation right there and that is Very Telling and it could be interpreted as Max not wanting to divulge the fact he was fuckin and suckin dudes but given like Scarecrows WHOLE VIBE AND THING i think its DEF implying he was sexually assaulted in there. AND ALSO. HE HAS TROUBLE WITH THE NAME FRANCIS?? LIKE HELLO? he def got assaulted by a man named Francis i SWEAR.

THE MAN WEARS 1000 LAYERS OF CLOTHES!!! AND HE SAYS IT'S BECAUSE HE'S COLD??? LIAR! IT'S BECAUSE HE'S AFRAID TO EXPOSE HIMSELF TO ANYONE!!! also the way hes like borderline hypersexual?? A big part of Max's character is him having to like Prove Himself he has to prove he is Strong and that he is Smart and that he has his Plans and i think he also feels this need to prove his Sexuality as a way to like...take ownership over his own body again...bc like, hes constantly getting himself into sexual situations and is also constantly talking about sex, like sex and fighting are almost Equal in Max's eyes, he uses them as tools to prove his masculinity.

i think him having been assaulted in the past is also why he is SO ANGRY about what Riley did to Francis. like yes Francis is his friend and he loves him but there is this palpable like. PERSONAL RESENTMENT that he has towards Riley and he DESTROYS Riley, and after he beats him up he suddenly feels Amazing and he feels really good about himself and his life AND I THINK THAT'S BC BEATING UP RILEY WAS CATHARTIC. Like, Max never got to get the satisfaction of hurting His rapist, so he took it out on Riley, and he finally feels like he can Breathe again. this is also kinda why hes so seemingly Blind to how effected Francis was by the assault, bc Max has spent all his time trying to bury everything that happened to him and just mask it by Fighting and Having Sex whereas Francis has just been Broken by it. and Francis TRIES to mask it, with comedy and by making people happy, but he just cant anymore bc hes been so broken down. In the strip tease, Max is literally able to shed his layers, but Francis can't anymore.
