You are not trapped in physical existence. You are physical existence.
To call it a âtrapâ is already a projection of wanting to be elsewhere.
Kant, Spinoza, even Nietzsche donât sell the fantasy of escape. They say: your condition is your reality. Understanding it makes you free inside it, not by leaving it.
Don't allow yourself to be sold âlife is a dreamâ as a cognitive tranquilizer, an âah, so donât fight it, just floatâ mantra. The real weight here is that ordinary dreams end. You have a nightmare, you wake and a relief. But this dream doesnât end. Itâs an inescapable nightmare, unless you redefine death as âwaking up.â But then youâre just consoling yourself with metaphors.
So what does it change to âunderstandâ life as a dream if itâs a horror dream with no exit button? It doesnât comfort. It doesnât empower. It amplifies dread, because you recognize your entrapment more vividly.
The paradox is like this:
If you donât know itâs a dream youâre stuck in the nightmare but you at least believe itâs real (so your reactions fit the stage play).
If you do know itâs a drea, you see the futility, the inescapability, the absurdity. Thereâs no cathartic âawakeningâ except more lucid imprisonment.
And that, structurally, is the anti-Spinoza result: not Amor Dei, but Terror Dei which is a clarity that doesnât empower but corrodes, because it denies both hope and escape. The unresolved question then is if one cannot awaken, cannot escape, and lucidity only makes the prison glow more starkly, is there any non-bypassed way to bear it? Or is âbearingâ already just another disguised hope?

I absolutely love Max McGerry's character arc like she's grown so much since she arrived at Holby
