iād love to hear the longer tangent about rich people in Pattersonās books
ok SO
we all know thereās the whole thing with nino pierpont, the flockās mysterious rich āsponsorā or whatever, in maximum ride. that one was just kind of a bullshit explanation as to how the flock was able to have multiple different houses when each location got compromised, able to travel places, how the island at the end of nevermore existed, etc. it was just a convenient excuse.
but another series of his iāve read is max einstein. i was going to make more posts about it, itās just that it was.... honestly pretty mediocre. i was disappointed by the ending of the series, since the ābig revealā was pretty much completely revealed in the prologue of the final book.
[this next part will contain spoilers, but i sort of assume no one here cares that much about this series, so]
if you donāt know about max einstein, itās about this girl named, uh, max einstein, a homeless 12-year-old genius. in the first book, she gets picked up by these people from āthe change makerās institute,ā which is sponsored by a mysterious ābenefactorā who wanted to gather up child geniuses to get them to improve the world through problem-solving things like the clean water crisis and world hunger. the catch is that the ābenefactorā is actually a 14 year old boy named ben, whoās a fucking billionaire.
basically his parents died (unspecified how), and he was, for some reason, left to do whatever he wanted with their money. he decided to found the CMI to improve the world, etc.
the villains of this series work for a company called āthe corp.ā itās basically run by a group of very rich, powerful people who want to become more rich and powerful. (which is pretty reminiscent of those āthe world is run by a group of powerful elitesā conspiracy theories, which... isnāt a good thing to be exposing kids to, even through fiction.) basically, theyāre a bunch of cartoon villains motivated by greed. and greed is bad and evil, obviously.
but thereās absolutely no nuance to how ben is portrayed as a āgoodā rich person, and all the other rich people are bad. thereās no discussion of how, to become a billionaire, you must exploit workers. and that wouldnāt be benās fault, really, bc itās his parentsā money, but that just means his parents exploited workers, and he was presumably shaped by their morals. ben spends a lot of money, but thereās no discussion of where this money comes from or how he acquires more of it. although we donāt really get a glimpse into his personal life, judging by his private jets and his taste in food, he lives a pretty extravagant lifestyle.
ben is pretty much a walking plot device (and also a love interest for max, ew) but the way heās portrayed gives off a ānot all rich peopleā vibe. āyes all the villains in this are rich, but not all rich people are villains,ā says james patterson, who is a millionaire.
these books have a younger target audience, so iām really curious to see, in five years, what all the younger folks who read this think about it.
š§ Imagination is more important than knowlege š§
( Idk if yaāll are ever interested in me talking about other stuff with a similar vibe here but if you need a good read I suggest the Max Einstein trilogy.Ā
Basically sheās a genius but is alot like George and Harold in her personality and actions, and her favorite quote isĀ āImagination is more important than knowledgeā. Iāve only read the first and third book so far but she also comes off as having ADHD as well or and in the first book is even reprimanded for daydreaming and generally being unfocused at times.Ā
The first book sets up alot well with introduction and general character vibes, where she starts as an orphan squatter in New York and ends up getting recruited to be part of a team of geniuses that work to solve world problems in an anti-capitalist way. There isnāt much to warn about outside of slight fat shaming towards one of the kid geniuses though itās not a large part of the story.Ā
Iāll probably read the second book tonight since I got these out of order, rip.Ā
The third book pulls alot together from the previous books, with some big twists and turns but basically max and friends are out to solve world hunger and she battles her personal issue of where she came from and her own self confidence. Itās genuinely emotional and thereās a big twist about where she came from so I wont spoil that. Thereās still very blatant comments that fat shame the robotics genius which is here and there but just really rude to read.Ā
i'm going to the library today, who thinks i should pick up a copy of that max einstein book

thinking about max einstein and how i'd improve it and like. what if ben killed his parents? what if he saw through the rich-kid brainwashing and realized that his parents were horrible people who amassed their riches through the blood of others? and he decided to kill them so that he would inherit it all, and he would do better. he would establish the change makers institute and use his parents' money to solve the world's problems, and then maybe he could make up for his family's sins.
and then, of course, he gets so wrapped up in it that he becomes just as heartless as his parents :3
Ok, so, idk if youāre still kinda like the Max Einstein books, or if you read any of James Pattersonās books at all anymore, but I recently saw your posts and your artwork for the series, and I just wanted to say that youāve given me hope in finding people who have at least heard of the books, I havenāt seen many people who know of them honestly xd, but itās nice to know that there are at least some people out there who have read them ya know?
Sorry if my rambling doesnāt quite make sense xd, itās 2 am and Iāve gone down, a very deep rabbit hole tonight xd, i donāt remember how I got here honestly xd
it's all good!! tbh rn i can't remember much about max einstein, but i think it's an interesting concept! and yeah since the book's target audience isn't old enough to be on tumblr it's hard to find people on here (or people my age in general lol) who have read it š
(also i didn't do any artwork for max einstein, i'm not an artist, but i did reblog some stuff so i assume that's what you're talking about lol)
i started thinking about max einstein again and i've come to the conclusion that i want to see her go feral
