less decorative stuff cause ehem lazy
summary: You roam the ballroom of The Wayne Manor as an acquaintance to 'some random' politician... or attorney? You didn't really care. But, you did care about the man glaring at you from across the comically large room; son of Bruce Wayne: Damian Wayne. Aside from the fact that he's eating you up with his eyes, he intrigues you, but not half as much as you do him.
Despite the large and well ventilated ballroom, you still suffocate in the crowd of the filthy-rich and unbearable scum with their overwhelming colognes and perfumes that reek of their lies and sins. You here the clinking of glasses filled with wine, champagne, or whiskey from the top of a shelf higher than your head as you try to make yourself bigger and more confident in a crowd you need to fit into, just as you've learned throughout all your years of taking what they took from you in family, happiness, and youth back in their wealth and pride. The man you're supposedly accompanying already finished showing you off and is already entertaining himself with another young lady— probably married, just as he is. Scum indeed.
You would've been able to converse and mingle as you'd usually do if it weren't for the man staring- no, glaring at you from the sidelines, hiding in the shadows. If it were anyone else you wouldn't pay too much mind, but it's him. The infamously stoic and apathetic and handsome son of the equally infamous billionaire-playboy Bruce Wayne. You've been to quite a few of these Wayne-parties, though you've never seen him in person. Only in magazines and news articles.
The Damian Wayne is staring at you like you've just announced to everyone that you're here to kill him (and that he'd kill you first). How are you supposed to go on with the night without just one conversation?
You swallow your nerves and walk towards him with heels more expensive than your life, gifted by some other loser of the upperclass.
"Hi, noticed you looking, it was hard not too. You're Bruce's son, right?" you spoke lax and with as much class as you could find within yourself to at least seem like you belonged here just as everyone else. His glare refuses to falter as he speaks, "Apologizes. And yes, I am. Damian Al-Ghul-Wayne." He offers his hand, though not an elaboration on why exactly he was and still is glaring. You take his hand but as you were about to speak he interrupts, "There's no need to introduce yourself. I'm quite familiar with you." "Oh, how come?" You say as you pull your hand away and you swear that just for a moment he tried to pull it back. "Mr. Stroff isn't the first and certainly not the only man you've accompanied to one of my father's parties." "Is that so?" You said through gritted teeth. What does he care? He speaks like he understands why you do this in the first place. He seems just like everyone else, they may accept you into these events but you'll truly part of their class, you'll always be the impoverished, destitute, and pitiful little kid as you'd always been. They'll always look down on you, but Mr. Wayne here seems not too care about subtlety as everyone else. "Well, how can you be so sure? I never see you during parties like this." ",—And I'm sure you've been to a handful." You hold back a tsk. "I don't bother," he continues.
"It's usually a hassle for me."
"And tonight it's not?"
"No, not at all. Infact, it's proving to be very beneficial. I've just spoken to whom I came here for."

ive been thinking about writing something longer and more in detail,
american wedding was supposed to be slow burn but the relationship between reader and damian is really rushed and confusing (in a bad way), at least to me because i know what it was supposed to be.
i've been very kill bill-pilled lately. i feel like kill bill was what i wanted to make but i had to somehow fit it into the song of american wedding which i failed horrible in doing.
in the first chapter when i wrote "reader is just as capable" (or whatever) i meant it in the way that beatrix is.
so i guess a really long damian wayne x reader fanfiction based off kill bill is coming up
i appreciate all the love for the last part gen made so giddy
jst like last time there's not much damian interaction until the end
this was supposed to be slow burn but im impatient (this is realllly fast paced now it was meant to be wayyy longer)
no use of y/n, intentional lowercase, screw forced proximity he WANTS you there and he always gets what he wants, blunt damian, cass and steph are fun
im really bad this whole writing thing

synopsis: you and damian lay down the law together but apparently, there aren't many. afterwards, you call your friends and begin to panic on the phone over dinner with his family.
after some planning, scheming, and tomfoolery you've found yourself facing damian midst the gloomy moonlight that washes over the manor in a particularly pretty nightgown.
you tried your best to not bite your cheek as damian spoke. you found youself back in his study, this time sitting across from him. you barely had any time to settle before the clock hit 2:20, you assumed damian was the type of person who when they say 12:00 they actually mean 11:50, you were right.
you've been sitting in this chair for only a couple of minutes, you can barely even understand a word that he's saying when his lips look so soft and pretty every movement, every syllable just looks so precious.
"-which is why this marriage will be publicised. is that all clear?"
"what? oh. yeah, got that." you bite your cheek despite yourself.
he nods, you can tell he's unconvinced. "well, for your wedding dress and bachelorette party, that is if you decide to have one, will be covered by us. you get to choose whatever you want under the supervision of my sisters."
"so, the dress has to be approved first?"
"yes, just so you don't wear anything outrageous. i know this arrangement may cause you some negativity which may lead you to, say, sabotage the wedding."
you perk up. "w-well, of course i can assure you that i have no intention to! i can't even think of a reason why i'd want to do that."
"to embarrass my family and i?"
"why in the world would i do that?" you exclaim, obviously offended. "that'd be meaningless and i'd only be embarrassing myself!"
"i know." he states blankly, "but we can never be so sure."
"but, why does it have to be your sisters? can't you approve it?"
"because-" his words seem to get caught up in his throat. "because i'm sure they know much more about it than i do and.... i don't want to see you in your dress before the wedding."
you couldn't help the red crawling up neck, "of course! tradition and all..." 'why would he even bother with tradition?' you thought to yourself. it's almost as if this is an actual wedding, with actual feelings. you shake the thought out of your head. 'im going crazy.'
the rest of your talk went smoothly, he was pleased with quite a few things, you being early, your reassurance, he even admitted to finding your blush amusing which just made it worse for you.
you crashed onto your bed. 3:20 pm.
you think of ways to kill the time. 'shit!'
"i forgot to call the girls!" you yelled out loud.
you frantically rummaged through your bag which was brought up by alfred early, you pull out your phone dialing Valerie's number almost instantly.
"hey girl!"
"valerie! gosh, im so sorry i lost track of time."
you hear a few distant laughs
"it's alright! we told you to call when you could, not as soon as you got there. is everything alright?"
"y-yeah. we just went over a few things, they're gonna be giving me a few shares of the company which was apparently in the contract so that's cool."
"wait, right, let me put you on speaker!"
"are you guys sleeping in the same bed!?"
you hear lilie almost immediately.
"lilie!"
annabel, you assumed.
a couple more laughs were exchanged.
"no, unfortunately not. i have my own room."
you could hear their gasps and snickers
"unfortunately? weren't you the one whining about how much you didn't wanna see this guy?"
mitch teases.
"well..." you trail off. "can i be honest?" you continue before they can answer because you already know what they'll say. "he's kinda hot."
"of course he is! he's a wayne!"
"told you, i told you!!"
"seriously!? c'mon girl, willpower!!"
"he is, right? right."
"he totally is, are you kidding?"
their voices overlap one another. you couldn't help but chuckle.
"is he an asshole like they'd say he'd be?"
lilie speaks up again
"lilie!!!"
anna's probably wrestling her again.
"no, actually, he's been really nice and respectful since i got here. scary, yes? douchebag, no. their house is scary too."
"of course it is that thing is huge. have you gotten lost yet?"
"no, mitch, i've actually only been in like, three rooms so far. but, tonight i'm having dinner with his family."
"eeek!!"
chelsea screeched
"get an autograph from richard for me!"
"chels, she's not gonna ask her future in laws for autographs!"
you could feel valerie rolling her eyes through the phone.
"are you prepared though? that's a lot of pressure."
"ugh, don't remind me, mitch. im petrified. i don't even know what to wear yet."
"do you have anything with you?"
"i brought tons of clothes but i don't know how these people dress at home! damian has been in a suit... do i have to dress formally for a family dinner!? or- maybe business casual to be safe? what if they're all dressed really comfortably and ill stick out like a sore thumb!"
"woah. calm down, uhm... well can't you ask him? you said he's been nice."
"yeah... but we're not really on the casual conversation level yet."
"right..."
"well! i know that they all live separately and rarely see each other so I'm sure business casual could work."
chelsea shared
"oh, okay. uh- how do you know that?"
"richard grayson fan, remember?"
"ah! right, right. but, where do i even start to figure that out?"
"well... what's your goal here?"
valerie finally speaks up again
"honestly? i wouldn't mind if i caught his attention."
high pitched giggles and screaming erupted in the background. you'd think these girls just graduated middle school.
"do you know his favorite color?"
"I noticed a lot of green in his study?"
"green it is then!!"
the afternoon went by devastatingly quickly. it was 7:10 pm when alfred knockes on your door informing you that dinner was to start in 20 minutes.
"sure thing!" you yelled through the door. you just finished talking to your friends. you picked a silky, green button up and some slacks. you didn't do anything too crazy with your hair and makeup. business casual. you reminded yourself.
you carefully stepped out of your room with your perfume lingering behind you and down the shining stairs of the manor. as you stepped into the dining room you could feel their gazes as if you were tonight's meal.
your eyes immediately went to damian who was gesturing you to come to him, considering that the table was really long and had a lot of vacant chairs, you could sit anywhere but there was one in between damian and 'tim? i think?' you walked towards him and he stood from his chair.
"everyone, this is my fiance. we'll be married in 6 business days as you all know. i can only hope you all behave and treat her accordingly." he says before he sits back down with you following along. for a moment, his eyes linger on your top.
"hi." a girl black haired girl waves at you with a gummy smile. "im cassandra. call me cass."
"nice to meet you." you gave her your iconic commercial smile.
"woah. you could be a model with that smile." the other girl gleams.
"i'm stephanie by the way."
"that smile isn't the only thing that could make you a model." a smug smirk is plastered on the face of the man chelsea desperately wants an autograph from, you can see why.
you turn to face him in acknowledgement but through the corner of your eye you can see damian's burning gaze towards him.
"i hear you're still in school." everyone instinctively turns to face the big voice. The man himself, Bruce Wayne.
"Y-yes sir. for my phd in molecular neuroscience."
you swear you saw actual stars in damian's eyes.
"Impressive. I also hear you already have your phd in linguistics?"
you nervously nodded.
"Very well."
the table is silent for a moment.
soon enough though, the thousands of questions stephanie and cass had for you started to pour out. the night went on in a blink, surprisingly enough a couple of genuine laughs were shared. you even exchanged a few words and book recommendations with the quiet jason todd.
before everyone dispersed damian came up to you. "that went better than expected. thank you." he left before you could respond. you let a stupid tiny smile as you watched him walk away.
now, you're on your bed, heels throw to god knows where and dialing valerie's number.
"hey! how was it?"
"way better than i thought it would be. he didn't say anything about my outfit though. expected but dissapointed."
"he's probably just being shy."
mitch pitched in
"well-" you were cut off by your doors bursting open.
stephanie and cassandra with disproportionately huge grins.
"hi!!! mind if we crash with you?"
"sister-in-laws sleepover!!"
"o-oh!" you stood from your bed. "i mean, sure, that sound great! im just on the phone with my friends."
stephanie ran beside you. "the one's you brought from home? hi everyone!" she exclaimed to your phone.
"heyy!"
"hi"
"hello!"
layered greetings flooded my phone's speakers.
"anywho," cass moved closer. "what were you guys talking about?"
"they're sad that damian didn't compliment their outfit."
valerie teased through the phone.
"val!" you said as the red rushed up your face.
"omg." steph turned to cass and cass turned to steph as if they were communicating telepathically.
"we have just the thing." cass says before running out the room with stephanie following closely.
"what- what??" you look around the room like there'd be someone there to explain.
"what happened?"
"dunno they just bolted out."
right as you said that the two girls ran back in with a paper bag in hand and grins even bigger than the ones they had when the first came in. which just seems impossible.
"sooo." stephanie stepoed towards you carefully.
"we got a bit excited and bought this a while ago but we assumed it'd be to forward to just give to you, butttt, since we're apparently looking for compliments."
cassandra pulled out a short, lacey, green nightgown from the bag.
"wh- guys! valerie look at this thing!"
you hold up your phone and open the back camera for valerie to see.
"this is crazy!"
"that's so cute!!"
lilie screamed
"damian comes down to drink water every night at 10 pm. you could 'accidentally' come across one another in the kitchen while you have this on." stephanie winks.
"wh- no!" you said with an embarrassed smile.
"c'mon! it would look so nice on you!"
mitch added
"you guys are no help!"
"it'd be fun! plus, great way to lose some tension."
valerie shrugs
"more like add tension."
"but it'd be a better type of tension!"
"c'monnnn, pleaseeeeee!" stephanie whined and soon enough 7 grown women when begging you to wear a silly nightgown.
"ok! ok! I'll wear it..."
cheers and squeals erupted from your room.
you nervously stepped out of the bedroom with everyone cheering you on from inside. you could feel the cold air attack your thighs as walked down the stairs.
9:58 pm
minutes before damian supposedly comes downstairs to drink water. the only source of light you had was the shine of moonlight coming in from the giant windows. before you could even process it, there he was, standing in the doorway.
his usually perfect hair is slightly askew, his gorgeous eyes were heavy and tired.
"why are you still up?" he spoke in a smooth caution while walking up to you.
"uhm... just getting some water." you backed up until you hit the counter.
he hummed in response, "you look nice." he moved even closer, putting his hands at your sides on the counter, trapping you beneath him.
"really nice." he breathes in making you shiver. "tell me, have you been dressing up for me tonight? he leans closer to your ear. "i can't help but wonder."
you turn your head opposite of where he is, trying not to jumble your words. "I-"
he gently takes your chin and makes you look back at him. "don't avoid my eyes now. you couldn't stop staring this morning."
you swear your knees were about to give in. "you haven't answered my question yet, habibti."
"y-you're one to assume." your pathetic attempt of being cocky most definitely failed as it did nothing but make him grin.
"is it so wrong to appreciate my fiance for looking so beautiful for me?" he nibs at your ear, you hold back a whine.
"n-no..." you said with shaky breath.
he opened his mouth, about to say something else only to be interrupted by some clattering from the doorway.
alfred stood oblivious with a few dishes in hand. "Oh, my apologies. I didn't mean to interrupt."
"O-oh, no, it's fine." Damian has a slight flush through his face.
"I was about to leave anyways!" you spoke so loud it was almost a yell.
you bolted out the kitchen and back into the bedroom redder than red.
cass and steph were waiting for you.
"what happened? you're so red!" steph laughed.
you playfully hit her before jumping into bed and drowning yourself in the sheets to hide away from embarrassment.
"just go to sleep already!"
steph, cass, and the girls on the phone spent the rest of the night trying to pry out what happened.
to your demise, you caved in.
you'll be teased for this forever.

summary: A back-and-forth with Damian. The both of pushing to find out each other's motives, neither of which willing to back down— at least in your own minds, little did either of you know, you had each other whipped and longing.
"Correct me if I'm wrong but you're here to see... me?" You raise an eyebrow but you try to keep a sly demeanor with the tone of your voice being teasing.
"I believe that's what I said." He crossed in arms with no further elaboration.
"And how in the world was I able to catch the Damian Wayne's attention?" You closed the distance between the two of you. Now that you were closer he didn't seem all that angry, he gave off more of an 'intensely observant' look. The way he eyed your every move, every breath, every hesitation.
But, you were never all bark, no bite. For much too long you've been knee-deep into the vengeance for your parents. You wouldn't be here familiarizing yourself with such shallow personalities if it weren't for the pain and guilt these very people gifted to you in your youth. If not their childhoods, happiness, dignity, nor lives you could take, I'd be the one thing they valued most; wealth.
Even just little by little, it didn't even have to go to you. The scandals you'd conjure up have done more than enough to jeopardize their careers, bankrupting them in the long run.
"You're not like us." He states blankly as if it didn't just cause a vein to pop out of your forehead. "Yet you're here at our parties. You wear our clothes, drink our wine, and eat our food as if you are."
"Territorial much?" You forced a grin. You did everything in your will not to take his stupid gold watch and run off for the night.
"No, not at all. You're very much welcome in my home, habibi. Though I sense that you're not here simply to be here."
Number one, what the hell did you just call me? Number two, it's none of your damn business.
"I think you've drank too much tonight, Mr. Wayne." You lean in closer, whispering into his ear. In all the times you've invaded his space in this conversation he never recoiled, just stood still, watching. It irritated you, you felt as if he saw you as nothing but a novelty. A wild animal in a zoo.
"Actually, I'm yet to drink at all."
This time, he leans in closer to you, his structured and practiced voice flooding your mind, at first reminding you of the rage, instead it was a slow all-consuming bliss. Like a starless night-sky, an ocean of nowhere, a void of love, and a crashing wave of disgust. Everything in it sank and crumbled. That was Damian Wayne. And you held no fight against the whirlpool that he is, regardless of much of yourself you felt you were losing, you kept coming closer and closer.
"You intoxicate me just enough."
You held your breath, trying to disappear from the moment. You really should've took that watch and fled when you could.
"And I thought that it was about time I'd actually get a taste of you."
A silence falls between the two of you. You both stare from each other's peripheral vision unable to face one another completely, or maybe Damian just liked hovering over the crook of your neck. The heavy breathing and intense staring was disturbed by the loud whispers of a few women in the crowd and Damian's eyes darting towards them.
Without looking back at you Damian gestures you to follow him. "Let's finish this elsewhere?" He spoke it as a question but meant it as a statement, especially since he was already 5 feet away when he asked.
You were silent as you followed, it seemed almost surreal to you, like it was him who was intoxicating. You cursed yourself for the vulnerability. The fact that you're following him, the fact that you haven't said a word since, and the fact that everything he's assumed about you has been right.
You shake it off, well, try to. You say to yourself that you're taking this as an opportunity. What better connection than the heir of one of the first families of Gotham?
Thank goodness for this giant Manor, you were able to think it all through walking from the ballroom to... his bedroom?
"It's barely even been a date, Damian." You smirked. "We can catch up on those some other day." He grins back. Your breath gets caught in your words. There's no way he's serious, right?
"For now, let's skip to the good parts." He turns around and traps you between him and his door.
He is serious. He's serious and you're... fucking ecstatic. This is exactly what you wanted. To have this kind of relationship with him. This was gold for you, you're here with another man and Damian just brought you up to his bedroom in the middle of the gala. But if that's so, why the hell were so nervous at the same time?
"Really now, baby?" You pulled him closer by his tie. Damian grabs your thighs, almost by instinct, lifting you up and pressing your chests together.
"Damn it." He groans against the skin of you neck.
"I know naught about you, yet you've consumed every waking moment of my life since I've learned of you." He admitted in a whisper so quiet it seemed to have been meant to be but a thought.
"Is that so?" You tried to tease only for all efforts to be diminished by the shake within every breath.
"And for how long exactly have you been aware of me?" You trailed kisses down from his jaw to his collarbone as you removed his tie, unbuttoning only the first two buttons before resting your hands on his chest.
"Three months and 19 days. You've been unknowingly torturing me for three months and 19 days." He said in breathless gasps as he moves his hands father and father up your dress.
"Why? I want to understand you." In the fervency that he leaned into you he practically slammed your lips together, yet it was soft and dooming like falling through the clouds and to your death.
"I wanna know everything about you. I wanna feel every part of you." He mumbled through aching panting.
"You talk as if I know the slightest thing about you."
"Then come to know me." He squeezed your thighs and pressed closer to you. Desperate for all contact and friction.
He casually invites you, he knows exactly what he wants, and so long as it gets him to it.
"Are you sure you didn't drink?" You chuckled as his lips moved down your chest.
"I already told you. It's you who I'm drunk off." He says as he lifts one hand to pull your dress down, leaving one to hold you up, as if it wasn't lightwork for him. "God, you're gorgeous, habibi."
You still don't know what that means. That didn't matter anymore though. You're now officially tangled up with the Waynes.
As the night went on he refused to let go of you. His hands and eyes were to be on you every single second. It's like he was memorizing every curve and bone in your body.
"You're quite the character, Damian." You said pushing back a moan.
"Speak for yourself" He chuckled as he quickened his pace and leaned in to whisper but he made sure your eyes were always connected, never letting you leave the void that first sucked you into his pleasures.

six days leading up to your marriage
synopsis:
day 1: you start the day in the kitchen where damian is preparing himself coffee. he stands right where he did last night, memories of last night cloud your mind. he offers coffee, you decline because you have plans to meet the girls at a coffee shop before you start your hunt for the perfect wedding dress (with the occasional detour).
day 2: you begin to have doubts about your relationship status with damian. you're conflicted about your own sudden admiration. All of these thoughts you had to set aside because of a wayne gala in support of your upcoming marriage. you're both excited and terrified for your first wayne gala. 'is this how i'll feel on my wedding day?'
day 1: and for many more to come
as they said they would, cass was asleep on the couch next to your bed and steph somehow made it to the floor. youre sure she's comfortable though, almost all of the pillows and sheets also ended up on the floor, it might as well be the bed.
you dragged your feet across the room and stumbled down the stairs. cass and steph somehow made you feel comfortable enough that you didn't care too much about your current fresh-from-bed look. big messy hair, heavy eyelids, slight chapped lips and a sore throat; the reason you're going back into the kitchen. if it were up to you, you'd never step foot in there again after embarrassing yourself to both alfred and damian last night.
speak of the devil. you stood in the doorway where alfred caught the two of you. damian meanwhile, stood exactly where he was last night; his tired eyes still so beautiful gazing into yours while he had you trapped beneath him. where he called you his fiance with such intimacy you almost forgot this was but a contract to be followed.
"there's no need to stare, habibti."
you feel blood rush up to your cheeks as it did last night. "i-" you open your mouth only to let out a pathetic dry sound. you lost your voice, probably from yelling at the girls last night.
he finally turns his head to look at you. "mh?" you pointed to your throat. "lost your voice?" you nodded before rushing to the cupboard to grab a glass. you felt him burning holes into your back as you moved around the kitchen. that's when you came to your senses and realized you're still in the nightgown you were in last night. the red that just went away rushed back up. you kept your back facing him as to not look him in the eye.
"are you getting shy again?"
you could feel him grin. you wanted to run away screaming again but you lowered your head and sipped on your water quietly.
"i made coffee." you still didn't face him. "it's black. i can add sugar if you'd like?" you let out a cough before finally turning "No thank you." you whispered, voice still hoarse. "I'm having coffee with my friends today. we're gonna start looking for my dress now."
his smile slightly falters at your last sentence making you perk up. "all right." he says "well. i'll see you around." you watch him walk away with his mug. 'why doesn't he have alfred make his coffee?' you wonder.
"why the long face?"
you looked up to chelsea who asked. everyone had their eyes on you.
you met up with everyone in a cafe in the shopping district where all the high-end bridal shops resided.
"i had a conversation with mr. wayne this morning." you shrugged. steph leaned closer, "when you went downstairs before cass woke up?" by the time you came back up steph was already awake wondering where you went. "yeah. the conversation was going great until i mentioned that we'd be going out shopping for my dress today. he looked upset about it and left right after."
"yeah?" asked annabel
valerie looks dumbfounded, a bit more than everyone else. "why? does he not want you to spend his money? isn't he the one who decided that he'd be paying?" you shrugged again.
"no way" cass answered, "damian isn't one to be frugal. there's no way it's the money."
"i think only part of it is." you drifted your words off
"it's just- when he and i first met... i overheard him in a conversation with his mother. he said something about my family."
valerie tilted her hair. "and what he said is why you hated him so much?"
you turned your head, unable to meet her gaze.
"i don't like to think about it too much. not anymore at least. growing up i resented him so i was just a bit skeptical when the letter first arrived."
you fiddled with the arch of your coffee mug. "he doesn't seem too bad anymore. maybe he just likes me in a more casual sense?"
you lean closer to them, whispering like you were ashamed even thinking about it, "would i not be a good wife?"
valerie rolled her eyes. "i don't know why that concerns you so much. when has being a good wife ever been important to you? you've always been the boss of things, what's with being so domestic all of a sudden?" she spoke with an underlying irritation, probably directed to damian.
"ever since now. this is one of the only things my father left for me that isn't covered in whatever dirt or blood the rest of the business was when i first inherited. yes, slightly unethical but clean nonetheless."
"i don't know, i can still feel my father judging me from wherever he is now. i don't wanna disappoint my family name now that i'm about to lose it." you bit the inside of your cheek.
"hey," mitch chimes in "aren't we supposed to go wedding dress shopping? let's kill these bad vibes, huh?"
lilie lights up, "right! wedding dresses are a magical thing. serious conversations won't cut it."
you sigh, "i guess so." with a tired smile.
"this is going to be a really american wedding,
isn't it?"
you mumbled as you stared at yourself through the large floor to ceiling windows of the third bridal shop you've been to today.
you're draped in white, lace, and pearls. something about it makes you shudder in an indescribable longing.
"i never understood that either, wasn't he still an al ghul when the contract was made? i'd expect this to be at least somewhat traditional." anna says as she observes your figure.
"well, we are in america after all. and he's a wayne now. besides, how the wedding is supposed to happen was never mentioned in the contract. i'm pretty sure we aren't even meant to have one. just pen and paper."
"then why are you having one?"
"publicity," steph answers "bruce says it'd be good of it."
cass continues, "and can you imagine that? billionaire's son getting secretly married through just a contract? people would think you're some sort of political industry plant."
anna nods.
"yeah..." you said with your voice drifting off, you turn to face them.
"i kind of like it." you smiled sheepishly as you fumbled with the fabric of the dress.
lilie grins, "i knew it. you looked unbelievable the moment you walked out of the changing room."
valerie speaks in a quick whisper, "can i marry you instead?" earning a few teases and laughs from the others
you and the girls exchange a few more opinions before ultimately settling on the dress. when you went to pay it was set aside, to be prepared for your special day under a last name that was soon to change.
your group stepped out of the store with your coats on. a shiver comes from anna.
"gosh, it's so cold. why are you getting married so late into the year?"
you shrugged, "i think that's just gotham's weather. it'd be bad any time of the year."
"anyways, what do we do now?" says mitch. "it's still pretty early."
"i may have an idea." a stupid grin forms on lilie's face. everyone immediately understands but you stood alone as an opposer.
"we already did this cliché" you whined as they dragged you to the lingerie store.
"maybe this time you can leave the 'getting caught' cliché out."
day 2: the ways of the waynes
you somehow kicked cass and steph out your room and were able to sleep in peace last night.
they kept bickering you about the purchase they you made at the lingerie store.
you spent the night and the morning since you woke up wondering how married life would be with damian. though the two of you rarely interacted you seemed to have some chemistry?
would you still sleep in a separate room? would you celebrate anniversaries? would you be invited to family events? is there any more family for you to even meet? will kids ever be in the conversation?
you sigh before dragging your feet down the stairs once more.
and like the day restarted there he was in the kitchen, making his coffee.
"good morning." he spoke up, not needing to turn from the counter to see you.
"oh... good morning."
"i checked. you don't have anything planned today." he said before turning to you and handing you a cup of coffee.
you were taken aback but you took it anyways.
"thank you. and yes, i don't."
"father has been planning something."
you tilt your head "and that is?"
"a gala. we usually have one around this time of year but it may also serve as a sort of celebration for the upcoming wedding.
father says it'll be a good opportunity for you to meet close business partners."
"that actually sounds quite nice."
'a test run of sorts.' you think to yourself
"when is this?"
"in two nights."
"oh. so soon?"
"so is the wedding. this is a pre-party, not a post-party, after all."
"right..."
he steps out the kitchen without a goodbye.
why was that so tense? were all your worries coming true? have you just been delusional in the few times you've spoken to one another.
you have to tell valerie about this.
you stood still in the kitchen for a moment, hot mug in your hand. you look down.
'it's dark. black is how he had it yesterday as well.'
you hesitantly take a sip,
'oh. it's sweet.'

Certainly not the girl who spends every sleepless night wondering, certainly not the girl who spends every busy day dreaming, certainly not the girl who comes home to an empty house, certainly not the girl stupid enough to stay anyways.
He tells you he'll be yours forever, why is forever only once every three weeks?
Is it raining where he's at? Is it snowing? The questions you ask yourself but never get to answer, because when he's finally with you there's nothing else on your mind.
And mindless you truly are,
"I missed you." You were so honest with him, you wished there was anything else other than your feelings that you were sure about in this relationship.
"Hm." He hummed against your skin, the smell of pain and blood still lingering on his own.
"Tell me something, Jay."
"Yeah?"
"Something I don't know."
"Like what?"
"Do you love me?"
"Of course I do? What are you talking about. We're together?"
You answered with your eyes, a sort of sorrow only love could produce. "I don't know that."
"You don't believe me?"
"Am I meant to?"
The silence of the night was relentless. It was beautiful, the moonlight was perfect, the breeze was cool and soft, and the pain was sharp.
"Yeah. You are." He answered a few moments later
Your smile said, "It's okay," but your mouth said, "Then I do."
He understood though,he understood you would never be sure and that he'd never let you know.

synopsis: damian wayne was never the biggest fan of bruce's galas. he can't hold a conversation with anybody there. anybody except you.
unfortunately for him, he's not the one you're dancing with right now. he doesn't know how to go about it.
it's another long night for damian wayne. he's attending another of his father's galas filled with ignorant, incompetent, incomprehensible, rich people.
he walks in confident strides. everyone is watching, everyone always has been, he knows it.
on normal nights he would usually stay in the shadows away from the flashing lights and gleaming glasses of champagne, but tonight is no normal night.
you're here.
he knows you are, he made sure of it. you weren't a frequent party-goer either but you've always been much more interesting at them than he ever was which is why he wasn't so surprised when he saw your face amidst a large crowd, people listening in on whatever you had to say like you were a priest on sunday morning.
what did surprise him— actually, more like piss off, was the fact that one person was listening in a bit too closely. a supposed friend of his, jon kent, had his arm wrapped around your waist, looking at you annoyingly intently as you spoke.
he stepped in the crowd with ease, nobody dared to be in his away, especially not when he had that scowl on his face. You noticed him before he was even anywhere near the crowd, you turn to look at him with a knowing smile. Jon follows your gaze with the same look.
"long time no see, dami." jon says, offering his free hand.
damian ignores it. "the two of you seem much more acquainted than the last time i saw you two together." he says through his gritting teeth.
"well, we spend a lot more time together than you may think." you leaned your head against jon's arm knowing exactly what you were doing to damian.
"well, since the two of you spend so much time together i'm sure you wouldn't mind being separated for a moment. i'd like to talk to you alone."
"well—" before you could finish, damian had already pulled you out of the crowd and away from jon. he was never one to take no for an answer.
"uh, damian!" you sighed. "what?" he gritted his teeth as he continued to pull you to who knows where. you pulled back and the both of you stop.
"what?" he repeated. "why so hostile, damian?"
"what do you mean 'why so hostile'? you know exactly why." he turned around to face you.
"no, actually. i don't." "he had his hands all over you! you expect me to just let that happen?"
"yes, damian.
because you have no right otherwise."
a week before, you and damian found yourselves entangled in each other's arms on your bed. again. it wasn't anything special, that's what it was supposed to be. nothing special.
but you couldn't help yourself that night. the way he looked at you like you were the only other person in the world, his eyes shining like an emerald under a star filled night sky.
"i love you."
"what is that even supposed to mean?" he stepped closer, "you made it clear where i stand in your life. i'd prefer you stay out of mine." you crossed your arms in response. "you can't just-" he sighed and took a step back. "can't what, damian?"
"i've missed you, okay? and we both know i'm the reason you were so persistently invited here. you can't... i can't stand to see you with him— or anyone else for that matter. not when i've spent the whole week without you."
you shrugged, "you said it yourself, we're just 'nothing special', why are you so bothered?"
"that's not fair."
"it's very fair."
"hey! kind of rude to yank a lady out of a conversation like that, don't you think?" jon walks up to the both of you. you immediately grab his hand. "jon. maybe we should go back?" jon glanced at damian seemingly both seething with rage and speechless from his own bemusement.
the night went along with the tension, with every move and touch between you and jon there was damian, glaring watching from the sidelines.
the music started to slow and the air became heavy. you pulled jon onto the dancefloor. the two of you seemed to be in your own world, untouchable to everyone else as you both held each other, hips slowly swaying to the music. but, your drifting eyes couldn't be ignored.
damian also found himself on the dancefloor, hands on the hips of another woman, not seeming to care that much about her.
your eyes stay glued to each other.
'im so tired of playing'
every step and flip of the hair between the two of you is calculated, intentional, enticing.
'playing with this bow and arrow'
"you feel used every time you sleep with him so you've pivoted to eyefucking him instead?" jon grinned.
'gonna give my heart away. leave it to the other girls to play.'
"he seems to relate."
"him? feel used? after what he said to you?"
you sighed and finally looked away. you could feel that he didn't.
you and jon danced the rest of the song in silence, by the end the two of you had moved so close to each other your lips were barely even a breath away.
not for long as you felt yourself being pulled away once more. you could recognize the feeling of those hands around your wrists any day.
"damian."
you called out.
"damian!"
the second time came out louder than you anticipated making a few people look in your direction.
"be quiet." he said with a heavy whisper.
"where are you-?" he brought you up the stairs, in front of the entire crowd. you could see the camera flashes from the corner of your eye.
damian was unfazed by the apparent upcoming scandal. this wasn't the first time he'd whisked you away during high profile events.
the soft sunlight that hits your face as you flutter your eyes open is anything but comforting. you're much too comfortable with this feeling, the warmth that envelopes your entire being from skin to soul. and it fills you with dread, an ache so beautiful you can never stop chasing it.
those same glowing emerald-colored eyes stared into yours.
"you break my heart."
if it's what it takes to keep you in my arms.
