So today in the OR, I assisted in a thoracotomy, during which I personally cut out the lobe of a lung in an actual patient. Like positioned the linear cutting stapler and fired it and retrieved the lung and everything.
And then I assisted a thoracoscopy in which the tactile feedback and depth perception were shitty as fuck and manning the camera made everything look almost just like in Surgeon Simulator.
I wish I could go back just two years in time and tell the hella depressed 21-year-old me that future-her turned out alright. And to not give up, because there is a lot to look forward to.

during rounds today I dropped my scalding coffee in the urology resident’s lap because he wanted to find out whether I was ticklish and he yelled obscenities on the stretcher all the way down to the ER to get his ding dong assessed by his own department head
The front desk gets a call from his mother midday and she goes “I want to talk to the girl who is so hot she almost burnt off my son’s penis”
Long story short this is why the entire unit calls me the sleeping dragon now and cautions people against tickling me
