Roman goddess of thieves, deception, fraud, and gains, Laverna is a deity of the underworld. She is a liar, and a trickster and the matron of swindlers, card sharps, bamboozlers, con-artistes, and charlatans.
The Lady of Thieves may be called upon for protection against theft or the return of stolen property, but be warned her favour tends toward the thief, though she is quick to punish a sloppy or unrefined criminal.
Her mark—for that's what she was making of his guests—were drawn in like moths. With their attention trapped in her spotlight, her practiced fingers worked in the dark, lifting items from her targets with fluid elegance.
Astarion watched Mauria approach Lord Linnacker, enthusiastically gesturing at the opulence of the ballroom. She pulled his attention to the room, to her face, back to the room—she practically led him by the nose. Moments later, Mauria politely took her leave of him, and they parted. In a pantheon of gods who take oaths very seriously, Laverna’s protection is sought by criminals seeking to take an oath they intend to break. She intervenes on their behalf, and her place in the pantheon speaks to the true nature of people, and the divide between those who would perform virtue, and those who would live it.
She is the goddess of all who would cross their fingers while they swear a promise.
