Mathilde really just wants a pet that’s low maintenance. She’d love it, of course, but wants something that doesn’t need her constant attention. A small dog would be great for her. 

Anya would be fine with a fish. She isn’t big on pets. 

Matthew would want a pet that he could take places. A big dog or an adventurous cat, maybe? 

Finley honestly just wants a hedgehog. He loves them. 

Arlo isn’t an animal person but he might like a turtle. 

Zorada adopts every animal that she comes across. She has stray cats and dogs, a turtle that she stole from a restaurant, a bird that just showed up one day and refuses to leave. 

Ora would want a pet that he could spend all day with. A medium sized dog, maybe? He really likes dogs. 

Astra has a monkey in the story… I don’t know if that answers your question.

-She’s a very talented artist. This isn’t that useless, as it is an important part of her character, but it’s not something that she’ll use frequently on a pirate ship. She taught herself how to draw when she found a blank notebook and never stopped. 

-Mathilde isn’t very good at things that are considered “feminine”. She can’t cook or clean. Knitting is a lost cause. She lost a lot of blood when sewing. The most she can do is sew a patch onto a skirt. She really wants to be good at those things, but just isn’t. 

-Her favorite animal is an otter. She loves how the hold hands when they sleep. 

-You’d think that with her former profession, she’d hate any form of romance like Astra does. But it’s the exact opposite. She’s a hopeless romantic and develops crushes easily. 

-Is a really good shot. Isn’t great at sword fighting, though.
