Happy 1st of July! Summer vacation is half over, but I'm not sure I'm halfway done with some of my summer goals. I'm almost done with this one, though! I started Jo Boaler's math course a couple of years ago, which helped me at least start incorporating the growth mindset concept in my classroom. I never finished the course, though, and reading the book shows me that there is so much more I need to do in improving my teaching. I realize I can't change the system/culture I teach in overnight, so I know that some of this may be really hard, but the possibilities make me excited, and I am looking forward to trying new things! There are a number of activities and resources available in the book, which will help out a lot in planning. I would recommend this book not just to my fellow math teachers, but also anyone in education. The chapters on equity, growth mindset, and assessment/grading has suggestions that could apply to any subject. It applies to all levels of education—from preschool to university levels. The people who create and dictate educational policies—from department chairs to school administrators to district leaders to state and government officials—would benefit from the research and case studies presented. There's something for everyone here. Okay, I'm done. You can go back to enjoying your summer vacation now. 😊 #education #math #mathematicalmindsets #joboaler #growthmindset
