-- “I don’t know what it is, but I look at math and my brain just shuts down.” The thing where you feel under pressure and your brain freezes up? That is 100% an anxiety thing. You don’t suck; you’re nervous. 

-- Literally every single person fucks up fractions. It is a known phenomenon in upper-level math classes that tiny little fractions will mess you up. Integral didn’t come out right? Check your fractions.

-- Same with negatives. Everybody drops negatives. Everybody. 

-- The number of steps you can do in your head is purely a matter of repetition and practice. It doesn’t indicate intelligence.

-- “This is hopeless, how can I learn this if I can’t even do 7+8 without a calculator?” You were prioritizing the more complicated problem. If you’re messing up small stuff, you’re expanding your processing capacity. 

-- Don’t push your limits on a test if you can avoid it. Using a calculator for 7+8 means you’re saving your processing power for the harder stuff.
