The Kodo Arts Standard: Why Sandalwood is Non-Negotiable

At Kodo Arts, we source only aged, heartwood sandalwood (Santalum album). This is a critical distinction. Young or sapwood sandalwood lacks the profound, creamy, and subtly sweet depth that defines a true base note. Our sandalwood is meticulously powdered and then integrated at a specific stage in our kneading process. This allows its oil-rich particles to bind physically and energetically with other precious materials—be it the bright citrus of neroli, the resinous depth of frankincense, or the earthy whisper of vetiver.
