lucas said to brooke: â you kissed me goodbye, but you never left. iâve been seeing you every time i close my eyes. â
@mastermicd hadn't planned to return to tree hill as quickly as she had done. when she'd said goodbye to lucas that time, she had every intention of staying in new york, at least for the foreseeable future. but as with all things, life had been entirely unpredictable, and the life that she'd planned for herself didn't come to fruition. it hadn't taken more than a couple of weeks for her to be back on a plane down to tree hill.
"i wasn't meant to come back. when i said goodbye, i meant it." though part of her was beginning to question why she had been so set on leaving in the first place. everything she did, no matter what or who for, always had a way of bringing her right back. back home. "you could have asked me to stay." would it have changed her mind? would it have brought her back even faster than she already did? there was no way to know for certain.
â i'll admit, i may be a bit fuzzy on the details thanks to those five rounds of celebratory champagne, but i'd swear that i did ask you to stay. it was just easier to pretend like i didn't mean it. â lucas straight-forwardly argued, with his feet steadily planted on the river court, the place where everything good begins. the setting alone gives him the spiritual courage to actually say what his heart had been screaming ever since she left â ever since high school, even, back when he made a blindfolded shot in this very spot:
she's the one.
and that new york night two dreams came true: the novelâs breakthrough, and brooke, right next to him. she just didn't know how much that'd meant to him. but, now that she was back, he'd do anything not to have to let her go again. he passes the basketball over to her, grey hoodie clinging from his shoulders as he challenges her with a flirty smirk, â anyway, you're here now, so how about a quick game of horse? you win, and we celebrate however you want. i win ... and i get to finish what we started that night before you bailed with your pretty tail between your legs. deal? â
