We really need a Dreamcast Mini
For people to be able to more easily play incredible Dreamcast classics would be outstanding. In addition, the Dreamcast Mini having HDMI ports would allow for easy upload of high quality footage of the games online. The Dreamcast having its games better preserved is also really important, especially given that the console didn’t do the best and so relying on discs and the consoles is less easy than with more popular systems, so having another way to play these games is always welcome
It’s also really instrumental for the potential of Sega to ever return to the console space for their mini consoles besides the Genesis Mini to do well. If the Dreamcast Mini releases and does well, we see more Sega mini consoles, just like how the Genesis Mini’s success lead to the Genesis Mini 2. If Sega ever makes another console it will be a huge undertaking, and while I am a huge Sega fangirl I do understand that it would be very difficult for that to happen successfully. That’s why the success of a Dreamcast Mini would be so crucial
For Sega to see the remade version of their last console do well would be a good sign to them that mini consoles are the way to go, and the more mini consoles they make with success the more likely they are to consider becoming a video game hardware manufacturer again. It’s a long shot, but it’s still an important factor as to why I want a Dreamcast Mini and would happily buy multiple mini consoles for friends
The Dreamcast Mini would also be the perfect celebration of the system’s 25th anniversary, and would bring more attention to an often overlooked hidden gem of a console
I also think the Dreamcast Mini happening before the Sega Saturn Mini is important. The Saturn Mini could do well, sure, but I think it’s clear that the Dreamcast has more of a legacy and would sell better as a mini console than the Saturn. If a Dreamcast Mini happens before a Saturn Mini it could bring more gamers’s attention to Sega’s consoles besides the Genesis, making it all the more easy for Sega to follow up the Dreamcast Mini by successfully releasing mini consoles of the SG-1000, Master System, and of course, the Saturn
It’s also possible that along with those other mini consoles we could see a Sega Dreamcast Mini 2, bringing even more games into the limelight, making them both easier to play and easier to preserve
And of course, after all of these mini consoles performing well, Sega could consider making a console comeback and have a modern history of hardware success to back it up. Not to mention a wealth of new Sega fans as well as pre-existing fans who have been introduced to Sega consoles and would be excited for a new system
