AN: I know these two have literally almost zero interaction in the show whatsoever but like, I feel like Dot would highkey be super jealous of Rayne only to realize he’s actually a pretty good guy that’s a bit misunderstood 🙂↕️

The training hall was eerily quiet, dust floated lazily through beams of light that cut down from the tall windows which loomed overhead.
The academy had long since emptied after evening classes and most students had retired for the night in their dorms, and yet here was Dot Barrett, prowling through the empty corridors, hands shoved into his pockets, his usual mischievous grin plastered across his face.
He’d been in a snarky mood for most of the day, nothing unusual for him. He felt fired up and ready to get in a fight yet there was nobody out wandering the halls at the time.
Mash had wandered off to who knows where, mumbling something about crème puffs, Finn was probably still glued to a textbook, and he really didn’t wish to pick a fight with pretty boy Lance..
Dot had been left to his own devices, simmering in the silence of boredom.
That’s when he heard it.
A muffled snap that barely echoed through the halls. But still a sound sharp enough to make him pause mid-step.
“…the hell?” Curious, Dot pushed open the door to one of the smaller sparring chambers, expecting maybe to find a stray first-year struggling with a spell. What he did not expect was this.
There, suspended upside down from the high wooden beams of the ceiling, was Rayne Ames.
Rayneeee… Ames. The Divine Visionary himself..
Dot smirked as his eyes trailed up to see the untouchable, aloof, calm Rayne Ames.. strung up like some kind of chandelier.
His arms were twisted behind his back, bound tight with glowing magical cords, his whole body swinging slightly whenever he wriggled against his restraints. His wand lay discarded on the ground directly beneath him, out of reach.
Dot’s jaw went slack for a second before a crooked grin spread across his face. “…Oh, what a predicament you’re in .” Dot giggled as he started to slink into the room, letting the door close behind him softly.
Rayne’s glowing golden eyes locked onto him immediately. He didn’t look panicked, of course not, he never looked panicked. However there was a very distinct edge of irritation behind his blank eyes, an even mix between annoyance and desperation to just get out of his situation.
“Dot.. Don’t just stand there. Release me.” Rayne demanded with a slight bite to his voice.
Dot scoffed a fake gasp as he pressed his hand to his chest, “that’s no way to ask someone for help!” Although dot still had a shit eating grin cross his features.
Rayne looked like if he had his hand free he would’ve smacked Dot upside the head right then and there. Rayne’s annoyance seemed to reach a new level. “This is not amusing. The cords are reinforced. I was ambushed while distracted. Now help me get down.”
Dot looked up to where the cord was tangled tightly around Raynes ankles suspending him upside down. “Yeah, yeah, I’ll get right on that. Or maybe…” His gaze fell to the wand lying innocently on the ground, inches from his foot. He crouched and picked it up, holding it between his fingers like a trinket he just found.
“Oho. Look what we have here, Rayne Ames’s wand… I wonder what kind of damage I could cause with this thing.” He twirled it dramatically, pointing it in different directions.
Rayne’s voice dropped, cold and sharp. “Dot. That’s not how that works, you know that...”
“Jeez, let a dude wish at least. Don’t you worry rabbit boy, I still don’t stand a chance against you..” Dot gave it a few playful swishes before lifting it to Rayne’s side and with a mischievous grin, he jabbed the wand lightly into Rayne’s exposed ribcage.
Rayne twitched away from the prod to his ribs, the motion making him swing back and forth gently before Dot halted the movement for him . His breath hitched, and for a brief moment, his aloof expression cracked into something startled.
“Dot!” Rayne whisper shouted through closed teeth as he fought the gasp that nearly escaped from him.
Once again Dot jabbed the wand lightly into the mages side as Rayne’s body gave another twitch, and though he reallyyyy tried to keep his composure, there was no denying it.
Dot’s jaw dropped. Then he burst out laughing so loud it echoed around the chamber. “Hahahah!! This is gold! Rayne, are you ticklish??” Another Jab to the side and another jolt confirmed his theory, “Yknow for someone who is so cool and aloof and “unemotional” Dot air quoted, “you’re actually hella ticklish! HAHAHA, I can’t.. heheheohhhhh man, this is the best day of my life!” Dot laughed snarkily as he leaned down slightly to make better eye contact with the fuming mage.
Rayne glared daggers at him, but hanging upside down with his arms trapped left him completely defenseless.
“Dot. Don’t you dare..” Rayne warned him.
“And how do you plan to stop me strung up like that?” Dot said with a grin.
He was feeling a little mean but he wasn’t a monster and knew Raynes wand was important to him so he carefully set it to the side so it was out of harms way before cracking his knuckles theatrically. He stepped forward, mischievous energy radiating off him in waves, his sharp grin almost villainous.
“Alright, pretty boy. Let’s see just how deep this weakness goes.” Before Rayne could get out another icy retort, Dot lunged, planting both hands firmly against the exposed sides of Rayne’s torso. His fingers dug in mercilessly, scribbling all over the vulnerable skin with wild energy.
Rayne arched immediately, as if his his body had been electrocuted, a sound akin to a yelp bursting out of him that no one in the academy had ever heard before. “DoHAAHHHATTTT!” Rayne choked out a yell of laughter as he clamped his mouth shut again trying desperately not to let it go again.
Dot really needed to hear it again now.. so in he went to keep scribbling mercilessly at his ribs and waist.
Raynes control broke like a dam as he choked out more uncontrolled laughter. “Hahhahaha!! Dohahahat!! Stop it!!” His normally deep and composed voice broke apart into breathless bursts of airy giggles, the rhythm awkward thanks to his compromising position. His face flushed as blood rushed to his head.
Dot was laughing too, not out of being tickled but at the sheer absurdity of the situation. “How he was able to make someone who was oh so much stronger then him in power, reduced to giggles just from a little tickling?!”
Rayne’s body twisted and writhed as much as the chords would allow, his head shaking back in fourth in protest as his golden eyes squeezed shut against the helpless laughter spilling from him. “Hahahahah!! Dohohohot nHahahahoooo!!” Rayne giggled helplessly while his body arched in any other direction from where those tickly fingers followed his movements.
His fingers skated higher, scribbling into Rayne’s upper ribs, then dropping suddenly to his waist, spidering over every sensitive inch they could find. Rayne tried to twist away, but every movement only sent him swinging helplessly in the chords.
“Y-You infuriating little!- hhHHhahhahahaha!!”
Dot howled with laughter himself, “Hahaha! Oh man, you don’t even know how good this feels! Just a laughing mess hanging from the ceiling! At yours trulies mercy!!”
Rayne’s composure was in tatters, his chest heaving with ragged breaths between fits of uncontainable laughter.
The mages breathless laughter bounced off the stone walls, filling the empty chamber in a way that felt downright surreal. Never in his life had Dot heard a sound like it, and he was reveling in it.
“You know,” Dot said between his own cackles, his fingers wiggling like wild little claws across Rayne’s ribcage, “I always thought you were like… some kind of untouchable being of higher power. At least by what your little brother has said.” Dot paused for a moment letting Rayne catch his breath as he kept his fingers looming over the older man’s sides “Some could even said I was even a bit intimidated by you.. I’ll admit it sure, I know where my weaknesses are..”
Dot watched as Raynes eyes studied him, those pale golden colored orbs that were so clear and empty, Dot always felt a shiver go down his spine when Rayne made eye contact with him.
“This is honestly refreshing to see another side of you that’s more relatable and human..” Dot admitted as Raynes eyes gazed away to look at the ground below him.
“I don’t mean to come across that way.” Rayne said between catching his breath. He wore a look of sadness and contemplation on his face.
Dot watched carefully before realizing that the divine visionary was starting to get in his own head. Dot intended to put a stop to that, he may not be best friends with the guy but he wasn’t one to let people think negatively about themselves.
Dot quickly moved against to wiggle his fingers into Raynes sides once again, sparking yet another jolt of movement from the other mage.
“Ah! D-Dohohohot!” Rayne was violently pulled out of his thoughts as he started squirming again from the tickly attack.
His fingers darted downward suddenly, sneaking into Rayne’s underarms.
Rayne’s entire body convulsed. His laughter pitched higher, desperate, his usually low and aloof voice breaking into something almost airy and refreshing.
“ahahhhahahahhhHhahahha!! P-phehehelease!! Dohohohot!” Rayne pleaded the younger student as he tugged and pulled at his wrists that were still very caught up in those damn strong magical chords.
Dot yelled in victory, eyes sparkling with mischief. “Bingo! Jackpot! You’ve got some seriously bad spots, huh??” He skittered his fingers around with glee, alternating between Rayne’s sides, ribs, and underarms, never giving him a moment to keep up with where he was going to go next.”
Rayne laughed helplessly, his eyes squeezed shut as he tried over and over to get free.
Dot really did feel a sense of power in this situation, he’d looked up to Rayne for so long and almost felt a bit of jealously over how much raw talent the other boy seemed to possess.
“You know what the best part is?” Dot leaned in, practically whispering just enough that Rayne could still hear him while his fingers danced relentlessly across his torso. “You can’t do a damn thing about it. All those swords, all that crazy powerful magic.. and yet, you’re stuck. Helpless. And you’re getting absolutely wrecked by some tickling!”
Rayne wheezed out something that was supposed to be a retort, but it broke apart into incoherent laughter. Dot grinned wider. “Ohhh, I’m never gonna let you live this down.” He prodded two fingers suddenly into Rayne’s hipbones, making him jolt and bark out a startled laugh.
“Hahahahhhahahahaha, dohohot lehehehet up alreahahhaeady!!”
Dot giggled. “Sensitive hips too, huh? Damn, Pretty Boy, you’re like one giant landmine of tickle spots. You’re killing me here!”
“D-DOhohohOHHhhahahahaha!!” Rayne tried to shout, but the chords and Dot’s merciless hands stole every ounce of authority from his voice. He was just laughing, loud and uncontrollably, his usual composure obliterated. Dot was practically glowing from the sight. For once, he had the upper hand against someone he usually couldn’t even hold a candle to.
Rayne’s laughter broke into giggling fits as Dot dug into the center of his belly, thumbs circling around the mages belly button in quick bursts. His body bucked as much as the magical chords allowed, which wasn’t much, only making him sway back and fourth from the ceiling.
“AHAhahhahaha!! Dohohot!!” Raynes body was giving in to the tickles the longer that it went on for, choking a bit on his own laughter as he breathed out large gasps for air.
“C’monnn, Pretty Boy, don’t pass out on me here,” Dot teased, with a bit of concern in his voice as he slowed the tickling to give Rayne a chance to catch his breath again.
His arms strained weakly against the magical ropes, but he didn’t have the strength left to struggle. His body hung limp, trembling faintly as he gasped for air, his face flushed red from the attack and from being upside down.
Dot exhaled slowly, a grin still plastered on his face. “Hahhhh… man. I don’t think I’ve ever had that much fun in my life.”
Rayne, still dangling, glared at him with what little intensity he could gather up. It was a pathetic attempt at menace, ruined by the faint, lingering giggles that escaped his throat despite himself.
“D… damn you…” he muttered hoarsely.
Dot barked out another laugh. “Hahhahaha! Oh man, that’s the best you got? ‘Damn you’? Must’ve gotten you pretty good huh?” Rayne groaned as he pulled at his wrists again hinting Dot to help him.
Dot tilted his head, finally letting the moment settle. His grin softened slightly, not much, but enough to show he wasn’t entirely cruel. “Alright, alright. I’ll help ya now.. Don’t want you actually passing out on me. Then I’d have to explain how you ended up in the medical wing from… tickling.. And honestly? Even I don’t want to explain that.”
With that, Dot stepped back, and walked around behind Rayne to see what kind of spell he got casted on him to trap him this well.
“Jeez they got you pretty good huh?” Dot whistled as he dug his own wand out of the pocket of his cloak. He studied the bind that was used on Rayne before lifting his wand and igniting a small flame from it to burn into the chord. The magic in the binds slowly seeped away as they returned back to their normal state and Dot used a slicing spell to severe the rope.
Rayne started to slip as he let out a shocked yelp. “Whoa!” Dot lunged forward, just barely catching him before he faceplanted, he managed to turn Rayne over before helping the other mage to the ground where he sat down so Dot could finish untying the tangled mess.
Rayne groaned faintly, his head drooping. His limbs felt like jelly, utterly drained from the relentless laughter and struggling. He could barely even lift his head.
“Do I really intimidate you and my little brother in the way you speak of..?” Rayne asked quietly. He wasn’t one to ask more personal questions or get down on himself but Dots words were tugging at his mind.
Dot hummed as he worked at the ropes, “I mean, yes but like. In a cool way, like if we were ever in danger you wouldn’t hesitate to help us..?” Dot smiled gently and worked his fingers under one of the loops as he pulled it off and Rayne was able to barely move his wrists a bit now.
“I see..” Rayne nodded and allowed Dot to help him, “Thank you.”
Dot hesitated for a moment, “uh yeah, sure dude.. any time.” He said as he pulled off the last tie of the ropes and helped Rayne to pull his hands out.
“Thank you as well for, what you did.. I needed a good laugh I was stressing out about some stuff..” Rayne admitted to Dot as he weakly brought his hands up to hug his torso.
Dot laughed sheepishly as he stood up and brushed himself off. “Hey if you ever need something like that again, let me know.. I’d be happy to get the group together and I’m sure they’d loveee to knock you down a peg.” Dot laughed as he walked around in front of Rayne to offer a hand.
Rayne blinked in slight disbelief at him before he nodded quietly and reached up to grab Dots hand who pulled him up onto his unsteady feet.
“I’ll keep that in mind” Rayne mumbled as he started to walk over to get his wand.
“Or of course if you want an attack from yours truly once again!” Dot bowed as he shoved his wand back in his cloak.
“Or ya know. Just a friend to talk to.” Dot smiled and tilted his head towards the door.
“Let’s get to our dorms and get some sleep so we are awake for classes tomorrow!” Dot laughed and felt his heart grow a bit with excitement that someone who really intimidated him and he really looked up to nodded in agreement as they made their way out into the hall.
On the walk back to their dorms Rayne walked side by side with Dot as they talked about things, the academy and spells and the works. Dot couldn’t believe he was actually kinda becoming friends with a divine visionary. Maybe this pretty boy wasn’t so bad.
