So I realized that foreshadowing is not exactly what I meant, because I focus more on emotional foreshadowing than plot twists, although both are fun! 

Emotional foreshadowing is all about creating resonance, so that if a character says they hate being alone in chapter one, that has to come back in later chapters in some way, either to show how they have changed or how that will get in the way of their progress. 

Because I know my characters quite well, I often write this in without meaning to. I’ll write conversations and then realize in revisions that the conversation set up an arc before I knew I needed it. 

I hate being that guy who says “oh, I don’t plan my writing, it just works out well, teehee,” because that isn’t true. It’s more that I put my time into developing the characters, and then trust myself to refine it in revisions. 

Sometimes though, I leave myself gems. 

Ex 1: today in revisions, I found a passage where Isaac is afraid because someone is angry, and he is doubting their intentions. I meant his fear to be a reference to his abusive father, and it works on that level, but I also discuss how anger can often be a clear indicator of someone’s feelings, because they have stopped holding back. 

The climax of the story hinges on Isaac’s anger become so pure and direct that he stops doubting himself or being afraid, and is willing to put everything on the line to do what he thinks is right. 

I know you’re only doing the original 151, but might I suggest that Mimikyu (that scary/cute one that’s wearing a Pikachu shroud) for the Dark?
