MARRIED IN BALI FOR FOREIGNERS, WHY NOT !

Is the marriage of two foreigners who are not domiciled in Indonesia can be done in Bali? Is the marriage was valid internationally? What documents and legal requirements that must be completed in a marriage registration in Bali?

Answer :

1. Marriage of two foreign nationals who are not domiciled in Indonesia can be done, that    should be done according to the law of marriage prevailing in Indonesia: Must be based on religious law and marriage registration should be done in the local civil registry institutions.

Then can be listed on the Department of Population and Civil Registration at the place of the marriage.

2. The relationship of marriage is a civil relationship, so about the validity of the marriage law there must be laws from certain countries that have been selected (choice of law). So we can not use the term applies internationally.

Basically the validity of the marriage should look at the provisions of the law of marriage from the origin country. For example, the UK. England and Wales Law stipulates that citizens who marry abroad (in this case in countries that are not Commonwealth) NOT REQUIRED to register the marriage to the government agencies. a. Certificate, which explained that there has been a marriage from religious leaders or pastors.

b. Excerpt of husband and wife’s Birth Certificate.

c. Permission from the relevant State Representative for husband and wife.

d. Passport for husband and wife.

e. Family Card and ID cards for foreigners who have become residents, and ;

f. Residency certificate for Foreign Nationals Permit holders.

Furthermore, arranged about the manner of registration of marriages by foreigners who perform marriages in Indonesia, are as follows:

a. The husband and wife fill the registration form of marriages by attaching requirements.

b. Civil Registry official do verification and validation of data correctness.

c. Civil Registration Officer noted on the Register of Marriage Act, and issue a citation the Marriage Act not later than 30 (thirty) days from the date of fulfillment of all requirements.

d. Excerpt of Marriage Act referred to in letter c is given to each husband and wife.
