Mark Bustos works full-time at a boutique salon, where prices start at $150. On Sunday, his only day off, Mark goes out onto the streets of New York City and gives free haircuts to the homeless. (source)
When you see a homeless person, what do you do?
Some people use what’s left of their imagination, and make that person invisible. Others quickly roll up their windows in hopes that the light will switch green. It is no secret, that a good portion of people could care less about homeless people. A lot of people have let disgusting thoughts and stereotypes plague their minds, and in turn, have used those thoughts to judge homeless people, and say vicious things about them. Despite how common it is to see these acts of unkindness, there are still good people out there.
Mark Bustos and Nasir Sobhani are two barbers, from different cities who share the same cause. Each of these men take time out of their schedules and offer free haircuts to homeless people on the street.
Mark Bustos
As a celebrity barber, Mark Bustos deals with what many would consider high-profile clients. However, cutting and styling the heads and faces of celebrity clients hasn’t turned him “Hollywood”. Every Sunday, on Mark’s only day off, the barber travels the streets of New York and approaches homeless men with the words, “I would like to do something nice for you today”. Bustos visits areas with high amounts of traffic with hopes of inspiring others to give a little love.
Bustos received this idea three years ago, while on a trip to visit family members in the Philippines. While in the Philippines, Bustos would rent a chair, and provide less fortunate children with haircuts. He decided to continue with his mission, and brought his idea back to New York.

Nasir Sobhani
For Nasir Sobhani, cutting hair is more than just a job or a hobby. Cutting hair is like a “high” that replaces Sobhani’s former drug addiction. Traveling via skateboard, the barber gives free haircuts to the homeless people in the city of Melbourne, Australia. Sobhani was inspired to do this when he provided a haircut for a man who wanted to celebrate his one month sobriety. The client’s transformation motivated Sobhani to start “Clean Cut, Clean Start” and the rest is history.
In addition to his “clean cuts”, he offers his time and companionship to each of his clients. He discovered that his clients needed to “engage in some form of intimacy with a human being that actually cares for them.” Sobhani transformed his life and the barber continues to give the gift of transformation to anyone that he can.
