Crocodile Dundee (1986)
NOTE: Take my scoring for this with a grain of salt. I am trying to remain unbiased, but having moved to Australia, married an Australian, getting a divorce, coming back home... I didn’t expect this movie to give me any kind of feeling... but it’s been really hard to get through, so I just didn’t talk much about it. Scoring is hard enough. It’s very difficult not to take points off for the parallel of an American woman falling for an Australian man. It’s painful to watch despite the fact that I like the movie. This man is nothing like my ex, this woman is nothing like me... it just makes me want to cry is all.
ESE: 80/100
50 +5 for kissing the dude to get his drink to spill +10 for using a kangaroo corpse as distraction to scare off the mean ol’ shooty drunks -10 for unrealistically holding onto that water bottle with the strap around the neck while the croc pulls +10 for being a polite Australian in NYC +5 for hitting Richard -15 for just grabbing the dude in the bar instead of asking about it +5 for Danny the cab driver +5 for singing in the tub -10 for kissing Dundee while in a relationship -10 for getting engaged shortly after +5 for the awesome limo driver, Gus +5 for being kind to homeless people +5 more for Gus saving Dundee +5 for Gus using the spoiler off the limo like a boomerang +5 for the idea of a walkabout around America +10 for subway telephone game -5 for too little too late (in my opinion) +5 for crowd-walking instead of crowd-surfing
