Key Cat pens long-term deal
GEELONG has rewarded Mark Blicavs for his impressive start to the season, locking the utility away on a five-year deal. The 27-year-old will feature in the navy blue and white hoops until the end of 2023. "Being a one-club player is important to me and the club has shown a lot of faith in me in providing that opportunity," said Blicavs.
GEELONG utility Mark Blicavs has penned a five-year deal that will see him finish his career as a one-club player. "Everything here is first-class and there is no other group I would want to run out with each week. The focus is on doing everything we can to again be challenging in the end of the season." With injuries to key defenders Lachie Henderson and Harry Taylor, Blicavs has been forced to take on more key defensive roles so far in 2018 and has done the job with aplomb, nullifying the influence of Melbourne young gun Jesse Hogan, St Kilda's Paddy McCartin and Port Adelaide star Charlie Dixon in Geelong wins. "Mark has developed into a key member of our team who fills many key roles for us," said Cats football manager Simon Lloyd. "His ability to play in so many positions provides us with flexibility in selection and within games. Coupled with his outstanding athletic ability, Mark is unique within the AFL." Winner of the Carji Greeves medal as Geelong's best-and-fairest in 2015, Blicavs has played 117 games in six seasons at the Cats after being a late convert to the game following an early career as a steeplechaser.
