ST. BONAVENTURE (Feb. 9) – A group of people allegedly assaulted St. Bonaventure University freshman Edward Caraccioli this past weekend, sending him to Olean General Hospital.

A news release from the Twin Tiers radio station, WVTT News Radio, reported the altercation at the intersection of Seventh and Union streets early Sunday morning.

A Bonaventure student close to Caraccioli, who wished to remain nameless, said multiple students randomly targeted Caraccioli at an off-campus house party. He said others who separated the crowd were also assaulted.

WVTT News Radio said police confirmed an ongoing investigation to the Olean Times Herald this morning.

Bonaventure officials are cooperating with police, but no arrests have been made at this time, the report added.

ST. BONAVENTURE (Sept. 9) - A St. Bonaventure University student said a security official assaulted him Thursday afternoon, resulting in a call to 911.

The student said the official took his left arm and pushed him against the wall at Parking Administration. However, Vito Czyz, director of Safety and Security, said no laws were broken, and nobody was assaulted.

Captain Robert Buchhardt, head of Cattaraugus County sheriff's patrol division, said an officer responded, but closed the complaint file.

The campus security official in question declined to comment for this story.

Around 1 p.m. Thursday, the student said he visited Robinson Hall with two purposes: to receive a parking decal, which he purchased Wednesday, and to negotiate a $50 ticket for not having the decal on his car.

Czyz said the official asked for the student’s signature to finalize the decal papers, but the student would not sign until the ticket had been resolved.

A physical altercation ensued, and Buchhardt said the situation was “heated to say the least.”

However, Buchhardt said the initial complaint file closed because campus security officials said the situation would be handled internally.

Czyz said to diffuse the situation, he took the student into his office and offered to pay half the ticket out of his pocket. The student said he accepted Czyz's offer.

“Case closed. He left. He's got his decal. He signed for it. And that was really it,” Czyz said.

Regardless, the student said he wanted to file charges against the security official. Buchhardt said no such action has been filed.
