We have a special visitor in the museum today: USMC Retired Lieutenant Colonel Manuel Martinez (seen here with our museum curator Olivia Anastasiadis), who was the Marine One pilot for President Lyndon B. Johnson. Mr. Martinez proudly served as a Marine pilot for 23 years. Prior to serving with the Marine Corps HMX-1 Squadron, which staffs the Presidential Helicopter, Mr. Martinez flew more than 2,000 combat hours in Vietnam and earned a Silver Star. He also earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, and more than a dozen air medals.
