Heya! Do you have a tip to write fanfiction even though you have kind of a blockade? I really want to write something! Not just for the others but for me! I have the idea but words doesn’t come out the way I want it? ❤️
Hi sweetie! Ahhh I’m flattered you think I’m enough of a write for that lol. Well, I don’t know what the problem really is - why do you think the words won’t come out? What are you afraid of? Are you afraid of the expectation? Are you afraid it won’t be good enough because the idea you have doesn’t seem to flesh out? Are you afraid that when you’re finished it won’t be what you want? Is that why the words won’t come out?
Breathe, Break: First things is first, it sounds like you’re a bit stressed about writing and while a healthy does of stress is always find, don’t dwell on it too much. Dwelling will only increase the stress, and it might cause a lot of negative thoughts (at least in my experience), I just kind of had to let it go and come back to it later. The great thing about writing a story is that its your story and you can stop any time you need, even if its just for a small break. For instance; I’ve been writing this particular piece of fanfiction for about four days now - I’m frustrated because I know where I want it to go, but I can’t find the right words either. So I’ve been taking breaks and coming back to it.
Write for yourself: While it’s a nice idea to write for other people, because ultimately as a writer you do want people to read your work - first and foremost write for you. Sometimes I forget it myself because I want so badly to please people..and when I don’t it sucks, but then I’ve got to shake myself out of it and remind myself why I started writing in the first. Maybe that’s apart of the reason why you’ve unable to find the words - maybe you’re thinking about the other people you don’t want to let down - but I assure you that anything you write your readers will love! And it’s still important to write for yourself, because writing for you is what’s special and unique about finding your own style.
Just write: it doesn’t have to make sense at first, and sometimes maybe it won’t until you see the bigger picture. Sometimes just writing nonsensical things makes sense in the long run because it leads somewhere. You mentioned you have the idea but the words won’t come out; but I implore you to work within maybe smaller confines. Maybe write a little scene here or there when inspiration strikes, or maybe think about your own MC extensively and how she/he fits in the story and build it from there. From around them. There are different ways to really approach just writing, with or without an idea.
Thank you for asking me for advice! I’m flattered you think so highly of me and I hope this helps you moving forward :’) @mariawalkerwrites
