I decided to explore a new color palette and the challenge of sewing curved pieces to create an abstract composition. I learned the technique of “braided curves” from noted quilt artist Maria Shell. Seeing the work of other quilters inspires experimentation! The improvisational nature of this technique allows many “what if?” and “aha!” and “uh-oh” moments that fuel the process, keep it playful, and still require disciplined attention.

Glacier ice is full of color: blue, green, gray, black, white. Beneath the surface are curving caverns carved by melting ice. Add the rays of morning sun over the expanse to see waves of color. This quilt offers an impression of the mysterious natural world on ice.

Time for Stitch Modern 2017

It’s time again!!

Stitch Modern is a modern quilt show put on by the East Bay Modern Quilters at The Piedmont Center for the Arts. This will be our 6th annual show.  It’s a good one!

In conjunction with the show there are also several events. The opening night, Friday, April 7th, starting at 7PM, is always a good time AND a good time to see the quilts and meet the artists while enjoying…
