🐭Have you ever heard of the mardo (Antechinus flavipes)? 🌏This Australian species is also known as the yellow-footed antechinus or yellow-footed marsupial mouse. It lives in forests, swamps, and scrublands. As a carnivore, it feeds on invertebrates, eggs, and small vertebrates. From Australian Geographic Image of the Week; June 5, 2017:
Yellow-footed Antechinus Bill Harris
Congratulations to this week's AG Flickr group member Bill Harris, for his image ‘Yellow-footed Antechinus', our AG Reader Photo of the Week.
“While searching Victoria’s Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park for regent honeyeaters, we came across this little fellow - a Yellow-footed Antechinus (Antechinus flavipes) - 1.8m from the ground. The species is also known as the mardo, and by locals as the Chiltern golden mouse. Males engage in such frenzied mating attempts that they often die from physical stress before one year of age.”
