The Another ESC Site Award for Goldilocks
The Swiss entry has been given a rough time this year for this entry. It is completely against norm. It is excruciatingly slow in it's tempo and it is sleep inducing. But the song has one thing that a lot of other more lively and dazzling entries did not have and that is a ticket to the Grand final. And it got it for good reasons.
I'm not a great fan of the song. It is not a song I will listen to, but I have to give it some credit. The design of the entry, the lighting, the screen work, the graphics, and the camerawork were absolutely pin point accurate in capturing the tenderness and emotion of the song. In doing all of these things, it left the star of the show to stand in one place and do what he needed to do. Marius sang the song in the right way without any hiccups. While it isn't exciting and shiny etc, it does leave you with a warm feeling inside and I need to credit the people behind this for capturing the right mood for the song.
I need to repeat the black on black statement from a few other award articles. I hate it. It seems to have worked in this case as Marius was back-lit while singing. It also worked where the stage darkened and he disappeared into the background to leave just graphics of broken hearts and rain fall. It also allowed the cold and lonely dark stage of the song to surround Marcus as he performed and it added another factor in taking this entry to the next level.
