Hi! I hope i'm not bothering you. But I just wanted to ask this to all my favorite rumbelle authors. So here it is: why do you think rumbelle became popular to fanfic writers or popular enough to create new fanfic writers? I just noticed that after shipping numerous pairings, not all of them produced the same quantity or quality as compared to rumbelle fanfics.
You're not bothering me at all. You're stroking my ego making me blush, calling me one of your favorites. I'm really glad I could make you happy with my bits of writing.Â
Also, that's a great question that I too have been wondering over lately. Rumbelle really took the OUaT fandom by storm, yeah? I mean I hadn't written fic in years and nothing that I would actually claim whereas my rumbelle stuff, some, I might actually let rl people see. I have three reasons why I think Rumbelle really got as big as it has. The first, Rumbelle had popularity in the cards, not that I think the writers/producers expected that. Emilie was so endearing, and fangirls (and boys) chronically fall for the dark, twisted antihero, in this case Rumpelstiltskin, played to perfection by Robert. The chemistry was palpable. Also viewership was higher first season.Â
Second, the first really really good writers got us all on board. Having followed the Rumpelstiltskin tag a little in the early days led me to the new Rumbelle tag and specifically Cyprith's fic. I checked daily for updates prior to Skin Deep airing (no really). Also, Masako Moonshade I discovered, a pleasant surprise, having read her AtLA stuff back in the day (avidly). So the early posters were good, which inspired the rest of us. Also, props to Marchie. She may just be the biggest Rumbelle cheerleader of us all and without her, the hype would not have snowballed as it did, imo. Really, same goes for all the War Council. And don't forget the early porn posting. That helped. A lot.Â
Lastly, the positivity. I mean, I know there are squirmishes and the occasional squabble (not the angst and smut wars. Those are fine. Totally fine. Keep it up everyone), but overall the rumbelle fandom is about creating good fic and helping everyone get better at writing. We help each other with original works and through life troubles in general. I actually feel somewhat confident in my writing, and about perhaps trying to get some work published... that would not have happened without the encouragement of the Rumbelle fandom. Such positivity breeds improvement and creativity, bottom line. I love it.Â
So that's just my view of what happened (strange it's been what? A year and a half... insane), and I'm really, really glad that it did. Thanks for asking!!Â
