It will take place on August 28 to coincide with the anniversary of the original march in 1963.
It was more than a March for peace but also a moment of fellowship for brothers and sisters from all walks of life to come together to stand up for what's right! Proudest moment of my life on God! Look where it took place! The middle of Waikiki! Some said this march is pointless and nothing was going to come out of it. Your crazy for speaking negative on wanting change while you sit back and do nothing. What if nobody marched prior to today. You'll March for college loans, unfair wages at a job, cancer, AIDS, LBGT,sovereignty and land. But when it comes to those who swore to serve and protect and lives lost in the streets of America you do nothing but drop a hashtag, meme, or some random opinionated knowledge? That's cool but this means a lot more to me then showing you I'm walking in the sun screaming I can't breathe and hands up don't shoot. It's so much deeper. You claim respect for members who fought to protect this country. I understand they risked lives and fought for what they considered to be right. What about the ones who fight the war for you to function prior to your service to live in this very country? For equality and basic human civil rights? This day we risked our lives and possible freedom to show we come in peace. No agenda other than that. We all must be our brothers keeper!!! Can't you see divided we are nothing together we stand strong! But I'm just a dj wanting to see change in the world! ✌🏾✊🏾#march4peace #blacklivesmatter #alllivesmatter #luckywelivehawaii #stayhumble #staypositive #stayRellevant #aloha #HawaiiPluGG🌴🔌 (at Waikiki, Hawaii)
Bataan Death March Route Map - Mariveles to San Fernando
I created this map using GPS tracking software during my hike. As far as I know, it is the first GPS mapped track of the entire Mariveles to San Fernando route. You can zoom in and see the route turn by turn.
Day 5: Mission Accomplished
It took me two hours to find the Old PNRR Capas Station. Part of the problem was that there were two different “shrines,” one being the Death March Memorial Shrine on N. Manila Road, which is 14km away from Capas National Shrine, my actual destination. I got off my bus near the former shrine, photographed it, then took a tricycle into Capas proper and started searching for the train station. I stopped an elderly gentleman and asked him. He happily told me it was just south of us, over the bridge, and then proceeded to engage me in a conversation about the history of the area. After 10 minutes I thanked him and excused myself. Turns out the train station isn’t remotely close to where he said it was.
Eventually I someone passing me while I was asking a tricycle driver about it overheard and told me the location: Brgy Santo Domingo III. Fantastic. Off we went. From the train station (which is not preserved like the San Fernando train station is), it was about a 5.3km walk to Capas National Shrine. When I showed up at the gate, the guard told me admission was 50 pesos, and then he asked me where I came from. I told him I walked from Mariveles. His eyes went wide and he began rummaging through drawers looking for something, eventually pulling out a guestbook that obviously wasn’t much used (I was the only signature of the day, even though a dozen people were inside, and the last signature was dated two weeks prior). I smiled and signed the book, and then the guard told me I could go in free. I insisted on paying but he refused to take my money. What a nice gesture for the end of my trip. Photos to follow.
