I just learned about the insane story of NFL star Jack Jacobs who was forced to eat monkeys to survive during the Bataan Death March in WW2. Jacobs was a fullback for the Cleveland Rams before enlisting in the US Army and was captured by the Japanese in 1942. He endured unimaginable hardships including starvation, disease, and brutal treatment by his captors. To stay alive, Jacobs and his fellow prisoners resorted to hunting and eating monkeys that lived in the surrounding area. I just learned about the most insane story of NFL star Joe E. Wise who was a prisoner of war during WW2 and was forced to march in the Bataan Death March. The conditions were so harsh that he and other soldiers had to eat MONKEYS just to survive. Like can you even imagine having to do that? The story is both heartbreaking and fascinating at the same time. Wise was a talented athlete who played for the Philadelphia Eagles but his experience during the war is what really defines his story. I have so much respect for those who have served and sacrificed so much. The Bataan Death March was one of the worst atrocities committed during WW2 and its crazy to think about how these soldiers were treated.
