Might change some up or add some swaps.
Theyre numbered for convenience but you can do whichever whenever, use both words or just one. I'm not the boss of you, I just like having something to refer to when im feeling uninspired or at a loss.

I've already skipped a day but that's fine, today is BEACH ⚔️ COUNTRYSIDE
The Runaway Princess is my main project atm so that's what a lot of these excerpts will be from. It's the one I'm closes to finishing too-- this is the closest I've been to finishing a single project EVER like I've never finished a single story, not even a fanfic. I am the eternal will-not-complete-a-story-er.
henyway on to meeting #7
All these old houses were starting to blur together. They were always busy and over-furnished, even the ones she visited as the Witch, with the same five paintings over and over-- a portly old man, a tall woman with a porcelin face, a countryside landscape, a beach, and a boat. Once or twice she'd seen some variety in the landscapes but only one place had animals and that was her favourite, from cats and dogs to dragons and unicorns. Everything else was so lacklustre in comparison.
Mortimer? Boats, which made sense being by a port, but there wasn't one beach or sea serpent and that was very disappointing. Muttering as such to Alister earned her a stern look and a mumble of 'be polite' in response, which was undermined a littel by a smirk and amused huff from Kane when he spared the paintings a glance of his own, and Alister gave up with a sigh.
Their rooms were more of the same, though with a corner of the house to themselves again it was much easier to swap with Alister, and Awen had a cozy little corner room all to herself and she very much made herself at home.
Once they were settled they were guided to a large room well-lit by mid-morning sun and offered seats on a pair of large plush couches, patterned with red roses on velveteen royal blue and smattered with scatter cushions, the smell of rosewater and fruit tea heavy in the warm air. Awen politely declined as Kane and Alister sat down, her fascination drawn immediately to a painting of a coastal village that domintated the southern wall-- despite the cloudy day there were beams of sunlight cutting across the scene, illuminating all the brightly coloured houses with a warmth so much clearer than the stuffy air in the room right now. She'd never been much of a painter but she had a great admiration for those who could, a sentiment shared by Sir Mortimer as well it seemed as he came to join her by the painting.
Working at a port earned him plenty of gifts from overseas, near and far: the paintings were always his favourites, and any he didn't keep he sold on to collectors and other such enthusists. "I'm partial to sea scapes myself, as ironic as it may seem," he said with a chuckle, nodding to the ocean view visible out the window to his left. "There's a sense of exploration in them. Snippets of life at differents ports, and the charm that captivated the artist and inspired them to put that view to canvas. This is one of my favourutes, from a country to the south west. Everything is always so colourfiul."
A warmth came close to her other side as she peered up at the painting again, and she didn't think much of it as she followed the details on the waves until Sir Mortimer addressed Kane and he responded from alongside her.
"This is the most I've travelled in my life," he said in response to a curious question about going abroad, looking up at the painting himself. "Our estate is about ten miles from the coast, but I haven't been that way in a long time."
"Not a fan of the sea side, Mister Howel?" Mortimer asked, but Kane nodded solemly in response.
"I love going, but my parents were the ones who took me there. When they passed away I never really went back."
Mortimer uttered a gentle tutt, nodding slowly in understanding before showing Awen a warm smile. "Well, I hope the two of you can make new memories together at the coast when you're back home. I always find a day by the sea is wonderfully soothing," he said, and Awen and Kane exchanged bemused looks as he suggested some places to stop by on the way to their next destination.
For a moment their 'betrothal' completely slipped her mind until Mortimer started asking after her own family nearer inland in Stone Tower, and from there the masks fell back into place.
ding ding ding dead parents mentioned! I try and remain aware of cliches but some slip through anyway.
I was busy last night and forgor so have COLD ⚔️ WARM today!
Set after 3kingdoms because I love them.
With the workshop closed on New Year's eve she had all the time she needed to prepare food with the others. Her parents and her sister threatened to turn up as well so anything extra was welcome, including chairs and beds, and by that evening the house was full of people talking loudly and preparing dinner. As well as food her parents brought her a box of assorted kitchen bits that she was slowly organising, discussing a possible workshop position with Derin to help him with his MET-limb apprentiship. They were all mismatched but at least they had enough cutlery and plates for everyone now, or they did until she heard a key in the front door.
No one else heard it over the talking but it was a familiar noise to her now: the rattle of the key in the hole, and the slow clunk of the lock. When the door opened that finally drew some attention, and Steluta and Rhosoare cheered when they saw Calista stood outside with Keet. Calista stepped aside when she saw Lilla hurry to the door, and let herself in while Keet was almost tackled to the ground, greeting everyone present as she carried their bags inside and closed the door behind her.
Catching her with a breathless 'oof' Keet laughed at her enthusiasm, holding her tightly and teasingly asking if she'd missed him. A playful punch to the arm answered that for before she clung to him again, the sound of Calista distracting Steluta and Rhosoare on the other side of the door nothing but a distant thought to her right now. "What happened to coming back next week?" she asked, her words muffled by the collar of his cloak.
"We rushed, basically. Calista still knows how to quick march when she needs to," he chuckled, before pulling back a little to see her face. He looked at her with so much warmth she couldn't stop smiling, though his expression turned apologetic soon enough. "I didn't realise New Year's Day was such a big thing now or I would've gone a different time. Why didn't you say anything?" he asked, and she couldn't help but wince softly in embarrassment.
"I didn't want you to put things off just for that. It seemed really important," she mumbled in reply, and he looked past her to the door again.
"The house is full. Your mum and I'm guessing your dad are here, with Star Boy and all. It feels pretty important," he said with an incredulous laugh, before noting what she was wearing and giving the front a tug. "Comfy?"
Pulling the oversized cardigan shut across her front for a moment she nodded with a guilty smile, but when she tried taking it off he wrapped it back up for her. "It's alright, I'll get it back later. Don't get cold because of me," he said, before holding her by the shoulders and groaning softly. "Stars above, the cold! I didn't think I'd miss it so much!" he exclaimed, and allowed himself to be pulled back inside by the hand.

The nearer to the Porthaven estate they got the more Kane's attention was diverted from staying safe and out of sight to the penultimate meeting, and she couldn't really fault him for that. They said as much when they first met that the Porthavens were their main reason for coming to Stone Tower in the first place-- everyone else, herself included, was incidental, though she liked to think she was a little more important than that by now.
She fully understood their desperation. The Porthavens were well-known amongst certain circles of wealthy socialites, and while they weren't the most powerful amongst them Lord Porthaven's desire to open a railway that linked Stone Tower and Tilwyth was very obviously important for Kane to weigh in on. A project such as this, supported from both sides, would be an incredible bargaining chip for Kane, and from the sounds of it the Porthaven family were suggested to them by multiple people in Tilwyth who were already in dealings with them.
"Obviously something this big has to be run past the King before it gets built but hopefully getting enough people behind it will get things moving in our favour," Kane explained eagerly as they prepared for bed, their meeting with the Porthavens organised for tomorrow. He was halfway through removing his boots when he distracted himself with his anticipation, pausing again to fiddle with the ends of his laces.
All evening he'd been wavering, switching from pensive to excited to worried, all while barely eating his dinner, and now that Awen and Alister were waiting to go to sleep he was still voicing his thoughts and shuffling about endlessly. The blankets he'd laid down for himself were twisted and crumpled from his constant fidgeting, and it wasn't long before Alister gave Awen a pleading look with tired eyes. "Do you know any spells for calming nerves?" he asked, voice cracking slightly, and while Kane grumbled a complaint he didn't correct Alister as he finally fully removed his second boot.
"Tomorrow is really, really important, alright?"
"I'm fully aware..." came Alister's exhausted repsonse, moving to hold his head in his hands, and it wasn't long before Kane crossed his legs and did the same, the both of them together the picture of despair.
What could Awen do but take pity, and after heading downstairs for a quickl exchange with the landlord she returned with three mugs of beer, passing one each to them before sitting back on her bed with the third. "No need for a spell when a drink will do in a pinch," she told them, and encouraged both to drink the whole thing before moving to sit on the floor with Kane, gesturing for Alister to do the same.
It took some convincing and a little more manouvering but all three were laid with their back on the floor eventually, shoulder to shoulder with their feet up and resting on the lower bed. Kane muttered something about feeling stupid but Awen hushed him, and instructed them both to take a long, deep breath in. She hadn't done this in years but even just lying on the floor had her so much more at ease, and as she told them both to breathe out in a similar fashion she could feel the tension in her shoulders slowly disapate.
Alister piped up next, expressing a similar concern to Kane, but Awen shut him down just as quickly before carrying on. Breathing in, then out, then the same again; it was gradual, but over time she felt them both relax over time, Kane first then Alister, letting the quiet wash over them.
It was nice to know it still worked-- or it did for her. She thought it did for Kane and Alister as well, until Kane broke the silence. "What if we fuck up?" he asked softly, gaze unblinking on the ceiling. "We came all this way... What if he won't even talk to us?"
"Any number of people could've turned you down before now and you still followed through with meetings. What makes this one any different?" Awen asked in reply, and once again Kane hid his face behind his hands, groaning softly.
On her other side Alister started going over all the benefits of Porthaven's support, getting more and more grim with each word that passed his lips, and Awen had to cut him off again before despair could fully sink in its claws. "You won't know anything until you go to this meeting, so there's no use worrying over it now. Stop focusing on all the ways it could go wrong and start planning for afterwards: with or without his support you have plenty of other patrons willing and waiting to help you."
A very hesitant 'but' followed and she held up a hand to hus Alister before he could get any furhter. "If you can name one thing we can do now to guarantee success tomorrow I'm all ears; otherwise I'm going to bed, and I suggest you do the same."
That seemed to work, and not long after she'd stood up and climbed into the top bunk Kane and ALister were doing the same. But as Kane went to re-organise the blankets on the floor Alister turned him away, guiding him gently to the empty bottom bunk. "There's one thing I'm confident will help out chances tomorrow and that's you getting a good night's rest, Kane," he said, and the argument was finally ended.
