i keep laughing seeing people like "the fandom all agrees we hated flowery at first" like SPEAK FOR YOURSELF. SOME OF US WERE LOGGED IN WITH THIS GUY FROM THE START. like the second that fucking Full Screen Anime Cutscene took over my entire TV i was in shambles, and then HE STARTED TALKING and I never stopped flying into hysterics every time he showed up. and youre starting to see a little shift in consensus even just a week out from ch5 now but it's also endlessly hilarious to me how much people just absolutely HATE flowery. and i DO think there's plenty legitimate reasons to have issues with him or just not have him be your vibe as a character but some of the takes i see are truly HAAAANK. THE JOKE. YOU MISSED THE JOKE ENTIRELY. HAAAANKKK THE PARODY IS CRUCIAL TO UNDERSTANDING THE CHARACTER. HANKKKKKKK
SO many people seem under the impression Flowery is JUST a reference to "lol anime tumblr sexyman" as a concept with like nothing else to him and that's crazy to me. man, toby fox Makes Very Deliberate Choices With His Characters. Deltarune is a video game very often ABOUT video games and that extends to Flowery too--he's got his Cool Shounen Anime Guy vibes yeah but arguably more importantly he's this walking parody of a character from a mid otome game with a big 'ol dash of mobile gacha game character thrown in there too, right down to all his audio being Talking In Shitty Soundbyte Voiceclips (HE SOUNDS. LIKE A CHARACTER IN POKEMON MASTERS.) Except instead of being an entity designed to be the player's love interest he's designed himself to be ASGORE'S. He's OBSESSED with Kris's fat divorced dad and youre just trying to seal the goddamn fountain. Rudy is HAUNTING the shit out of this chapter which is its own post but the deliberate way Flowery mimics and emulates him specifically Grips Me.
and idk i just think it's a fun take on this idea, other people have articulated it better than me but he's a great parody of those types of games and the way toby uses that to goad the player into just fucking Hating this guy, waiting for the other shoe to drop and for him to do some crazy evil shit, when ultimately he Literally Has Good Points and Cares a Lot and Is A Lot of Ways To Ralsei What Gerson Was To Susie, is another example of how good mr. fox is at zagging on us. You play his game you WILL be kept on your toes. Taking a minute and engaging With flowery as a character and Why he's the things he is in game, same as you would with any other dr character, reveals a lot of thought put into him. Hopefully the longer the chapter is out the more people engage with what he brings to the table (even if he pisses them off in the process ❤)
tl;dr the longer i sit and think the more i like flowery a LOT. He's endlessly interesting to me AND he's so. so fucking funny. im sorry but he's hysterical, every single increasingly specific voiceclip makes me lose it. A BLINGO BLIZZARD!!!!!!!!
