मराठी रंगभूमीची सुरुवात १८४३ साली विष्णुदास भावे यांच्या "सीता स्वयंवर" या नाटकाने झाली.

नंतरच्या काळात कोल्हापुर, पुणे, मुंबई येथे नाट्यमंडळांची उभारणी झाली.

किर्लोस्कर नाट्यकंपनी आणि बालगंधर्वांचे नाट्यगायन यांनी मराठी रंगभूमीला नवे वैभव दिले.

नाटके ही केवळ मनोरंजनापुरती नसून सामाजिक सुधारणांचे साधन ठरली.

मराठी चित्रपटसृष्टीचा प्रवास

पहिला मराठी चित्रपट राजा हरिश्चंद्र (१९१३) दादासाहेब फाळके यांनी निर्माण केला.

सुरुवातीला ऐतिहासिक व पौराणिक चित्रपटांना प्राधान्य मिळाले.

पुढे १९५०-६० च्या दशकात "शामची आई", "जगाचं पाटील", "महालक्ष्मी एक्सप्रेस" यांसारख्या चित्रपटांनी लोकप्रियता मिळवली.

१९८०-९० च्या दशकात "अशी ही बनवाबनवी", "ठिपक्याचा रंगोली" यांसारख्या विनोदी व सामाजिक चित्रपटांनी रसिकांचे मनोरंजन केले.

आजच्या काळात "सैराट", "नटसम्राट", "फंड्री", "कोर्ट" यांसारख्या चित्रपटांनी मराठी सिनेमा जागतिक स्तरावर नेला.
