I think that Beth could've lived to Alexandria without it hindering the plot at all and she could've been the change the series needed when we hit the layer seasons and run out of fun character driven scenes which were the heart and soul of the show for me.
Beth was at her most interesting for me right before she died and her presence haunted me for the rest of the next couple of seasons. I just can't let go of thinking... what was the point? She still had so much to do, she's such an interesting slow burn of a character that they tossed out, and I just couldn't stop thinking about it up until I had to take a loooong break from the show- I started writing a fanfic about it, actually.
Beth like Carl was a symbol of the future for the show and within the context of the group. Her youth, like Carl's represents change and within the context of The Walking Dead makes that sort of change life or death? She also always had her moments of spark that brought her character to life. When she confronts Lori about her pregnancy, and asked her straight up why she was having a baby in the new world...I was on her side. I wasn't anti-lori but I didn't know Judith like that at the time, I was unaware of her game. Why would she do that to a child?
Beth had her moments like that on the farm that I liked and then she sort of flew under the radar for me after s2eBloodletting(4???). Ironically the prison group being bigger gave her a lot more to do, which is a theme of hers. It isn't until when everyone's backs are against the wall later in the season (when everyone got sick for example) or in her absence (whole beth missing arc) do I think that Beth shines. It left an impression on me, and also made me feel kind of grieve her after taking her for granted for so long.
What I mean is, Beth is this healing figure in the group. Her and Maggie both can serve as maternal figures, maybe stemming from their past family dynamics, but Beth is the softer of the two of them.
She also kept her style practical but also cute and it was refreshing for someone to give a fuck in a pre-rosita, post-farm lifestyle.

andrea and Beth barely interact! why? they had an interesting character dynamic. Beth must remind Andrea so much of Amy.
Why NOT let Beth become a capable survivor that is always great to see, she doesn't have to be carol to do that? is that the only reason why?
