media release: Lights, Camera, Hospitality: Resorts World Genting Launches Original Short Drama ‘The Resort Whiz’
Resorts World Genting (RWG) today rolled out the red carpet for its first original short drama, The Resort Whiz (酒店智多星), marking an exciting new venture into digital-first entertainment that blends storytelling, hospitality and immersive resort experiences.
Produced in collaboration with Multimedia Entertainment, the 60-episode vertical short drama will premiere from 15 July across multiple digital platforms. Designed for today’s mobile-first audiences, each bite-sized episode runs for approximately two minutes and combines comedy, romance and workplace humour with a distinctly Malaysian flavour.
Speaking at the launch, Spencer Lee, Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Public Relations of Resorts World Genting, said the project reflects RWG’s push to explore new storytelling formats that connect more meaningfully with younger audiences.
“Short-form storytelling allows us to engage audiences in a way that is fast, relatable and highly accessible,” he added. “The Resort Whiz gives us the opportunity to bring the Resorts World Genting experience to life through entertainment, while showcasing the energy, creativity and diversity that define our resort. It is about meeting audiences where they are, while inviting them to discover more of what we offer.”
The launch of The Resort Whiz marks the latest step in RWG’s broader content and storytelling journey. Building on existing initiatives such as live radio (V On Air), podcasts and social media livestreaming, the resort continues to explore new ways of engaging audiences through original content, reflecting its evolution as a dynamic travel and entertainment destination. As part of this ongoing effort, RWG also welcomes opportunities to collaborate with Malaysian creators, storytellers and digital talents to develop fresh and engaging content experiences for audiences.
Set in a five-star hotel, The Resort Whiz follows a spirited team of employees as they navigate workplace challenges, unexpected guests and amusing misunderstandings in a story filled with humour, romance and surprising twists. The series delivers light-hearted entertainment while celebrating the warmth, teamwork and dedication behind exceptional hospitality.
Filmed entirely at Resorts World Genting, the series features recognisable locations including RW Hotel, Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park, Eufloria Gardens and Sculpture Park, Genting Guest Xperience Centre, and more, all seamlessly woven into the storyline. The series also stars Hong Kong actor Lok Yi alongside Malaysian talents Maq Lai, Joey, Ahlina, Moontail, YC and Alya, bringing together established performers and emerging digital creators across the region.
Adding to the excitement, The Resort Whiz will also feature an original theme song titled “Only Want to Be with You, at Resorts World Genting” (只想和你在一起,在云顶世界), performed by Chloe Yuz, created exclusively for the series. Inspired by the joy of travel, shared experiences and the refreshing escape offered by the highlands, the upbeat track captures the spirit of adventure, togetherness and discovery that defines the Resorts World Genting experience, while serving as the perfect soundtrack to the drama’s youthful and light-hearted storytelling.
Beyond the storyline, the series subtly brings to life the Resorts World Genting experience, with familiar moments and settings that reflect how guests interact with the resort today. The series also introduces viewers to the convenience of the RWG App, demonstrating how guests can book hotel stays, purchase attraction tickets, collect and redeem Genting Rewards points, and enjoy a more seamless resort experience. At the same time, the drama offers a light-hearted glimpse into the people behind the resort, highlighting the collaborative workplace culture and diverse career opportunities available at Resorts World Genting.
Ahead of the premiere, teaser videos will be released on 9 July to give audiences a taste of the story. The full series will be available on Resorts World Genting’s YouTube channel, with additional content shared across the resort’s official social media platforms. Audiences can also catch the drama on XUAN and PUA Works’ official social media platforms, including Facebook, TikTok and YouTube channels.
With The Resort Whiz, Resorts World Genting further strengthens its digital storytelling direction, combining entertainment and real-world experiences in a format designed for a new generation of viewers.
