❂ bethanie was born in atlanta, georgia to marquis and nora robinson. her mother was a talented singer who preferred weddings but dabbled in performing at public events and clubs. her father, at the time of bethanie’s birth, was a young man taking his first steps into the NFL. 

❂ by the time bethanie was six, she’d already followed in her father’s footsteps and lived and breathed sports. she attended every game with her mother and was one of the loudest tiny voices in the crowd. shortly after her father’s fifth season with the falcons, the family moved to charlotte, nc when her father took up a new position as a starting linebacker for the carolina panthers.

❂ although not an american football player herself, bethanie also lived and breathed athletics and field hockey alongside her deep-rooted passion for american football. all-in-all... sport was (and remains) her passion. 

❂ there was nothing remarkable about the way bethanie grew up. she had two loving parents who supported her completely and she never had to need for much. she went to college with a scholarship for athletics but a series of injuries in her senior year saw her cut short from national success. by this time, her father had retired, entered the hall of fame and coached at the university of north carolina. in passing one thanksgiving, he mentioned that it should be something she considered.

❂ bethanie’s mother passed away when beth was 24 and she temporarily moved back in with her father to support him through the loss. months turned into years and the two became quite the team, beth supporting her father with his own job while working on the side. three years ago, her father told her that he’d got in touch with an old friend who knew of an opening in a small town called mapleview. just a high school position but a chance to change lives... bethanie took it and made the move.

atlas is born and raised in mapleview, been here his whole life, his family has been here for several generations and the name is very respected. his grandparents were very involved in town politics and stuff

his parents are the town’s weirdos like they’re very open, very fun, were definitely hippies once upon a time and still kinda live by that. everyone who’s met them and are friends of atlas’ are adopted by the holmes’ now. i don’t make the rules

atlas has an older brother, orion, yes his parents had a theme, and after they got him things became really hard for two ppl who weren’t really used to taking responsibility. they started using a lot and whilst they were always very loving, they also tended to unintentionally neglect their son

things got worse when atlas came around, definitely a mistake and his parents tried their best to fit him into their lives, but there really was no room for children in their then current lifestyle

a long custody battle erupted between atlas’s parents and atlas’s grandparents. most of atlas’ early childhood was spent bouncing between them, but at 7 his grandparents won custody over him. orion, 14 at the time, got to stay with their parents

his grandparents were a literal nightmare, very religious people, atlas was not allowed to do pretty much anything he wanted to do and was expected to be the perfect grandson at all times. any mistake was punished, any time he spent w friends outside of school hours were punished. that didn’t stop him from sneaking out to hang out w lane tho

he was very often physically abused, would show up with new wounds and bruises every week at school, but would ofc blame it on being clumsy etc etc. it’s a small town so some people definitely had an inkling

at 13, atlas had a fight with his grandfather which resulted in a kitchen knife in his chest, a sudden but deliberate action not meant to kill, but definitely to harm. he was hospitalized for a week and it was then he was given back to his parents as his grandparents would never see him or any family again really. today atlas has a scar, but no other wounds/ailments (except the trauma).

his parents really did their best all those years to get him back, but in a town where atlas’ grandparents were so influential very few wanted to get on their bad side — and who would believe a reckless couple who couldn’t care for their own children after all?

NOW:

the holmes-case got a LOT of attention not just in mapleview, but nationally. it was a huge scandal, a heartbreaking case, one of the biggest court cases the town had seen. atlas doesn’t like to talk about it simply because he doesn’t wanna be pitied or defined by it. of course, he’s never going to escape it entirely

after atlas moved to chestnut drive at 19 to live by himself, his parents moved out of town and have opened a fox sanctuary where they save foxes from fur farms. they have about 15 foxes in total and atlas has a large outer area at his own place for his own pet fox, malakai

loves his parents, doesn’t get along w his brother bc atlas is lowkey bitter and has trust issues

works as a vet intern just outside of town and loves his job

the quickest way to describe jude is old soul. he’s never been the type to involve himself in petty drama, wise beyond his years, even down to the way he enjoys things --- preferring to listen to vinyls, sit down with an actual book, writes sappy letters, even has an old v.w. van that he has curtains and string lights in.

loves flowers more than any other living thing on this planet. his original ambition was to become a botanist, but he didn’t find that traditional college worked for him.

he drifted toward his second love of film. growing up in mapleview, his favorite spot was always the drive in theater. he often joked that he lived there. getting a job there was a perfect fit for him, and he has no plans to leave anytime soon.

ABOUT JAKE | STATS

jake grew up in a home filled with nothing but love. as the only child of andrew and sarah, he was spoiled rotten ( but in the nicest way possible ). 

a lot of his personality comes from his father, a retired comedian, that taught him having a good sense of humor and looking at life from a positive perspective were truly the most important things.

as a teenager, jake was very focused and centered when it came to his academic life, something his mother taught him. he wasn’t a party guy but he definitely was known around as the funny guy or the dorky guy that everyone seemed to loved.

he met his future wife, leah, when he was just seventeen and if you ask him about it, he’ll obviously describe it as love at first sight. their connection was instant and it didn’t take long before the two started dating.

the lovebirds married soon after graduation and started their lives together. a few years later, their first son came as a surprise but still very loved nonetheless. that wasn’t a hardship for the young lovers, they pulled through together as a family whilst raising a baby and being college students.

life in the horowitz household wasn’t always perfect, jake can acknowledge that, but it pretty damn near to it. with their degrees, the two soon were able to stabilize themselves and build a real home on the house he still lives in to this day at sycamore way.

about four years ago, leah surprisingly found out she was expecting. even if it was somewhat of a risky pregnancy, she decided to go through with it and jake obviously supported her choice. at the time of delivery, a beautiful baby girl was born but unfortunately, leah lost too much blood and passed away

the year that followed was probably the hardest in jake’s life. mourning the loss of the love of his life while raising a son and caring for a baby as well as having a full time job wasn’t easy in the least -- he’s just glad he had his friends and his parents to help him out.

Nathaniel grew up in Mapleview, North Carolina in foster care, going from home to home. His birth mother had her rights removed when he was four years old, and vague memories remain of her. He also has a brother, two years younger than him. 

His birth mother was a drug addict and he carries resentment for her, even now. 

He has horror stories of some of his foster homes, and he had behavioral issues as a kid and they simply couldn’t deal with him and he continued to flit from home to home. 

He felt/feels very lost in life.

When he was thirteen, he and his brother found each other again and were adopted into a permanent home by Elisabeth and James Blackwood. They sought therapy for Nathaniel’s behavioral issues, such as screaming, sneaking alcohol, etc. and these slowly stopped being a problem.

His adoptive mother, as he came to discover, has bipolar disorder, which explained how she would be on top of the world for a few weeks and then very down and laying in bed for another few weeks. Nathaniel sometimes wonders if he has bipolar disorder as well. 

Nonetheless, the two adoptive parents made the home a welcoming, loving space for the two brothers. Music, books, animals, art, and food surrounded them. 

Went to college for graphic design, and later decided to become a tattoo artist. 

He now lives in a home on Sycamore Way and is a tattoo artist with a dog.

alonzo  was  born  in  a  south  american  country:  chile.  his  parents  &  a  9-month  old  baby  boy  moved  to  the  united  states  —  and  had  grown  fond  of  the  small  town  by  the  name  of  𝒎𝒂𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘  &  stayed  ever  since.  mom  and  dad  never  had  another  child;  it  was  the  three  of  them  against  the  world,  or  that’s  what  it  felt  like  for  the  first  couple  of  years.  they  did  everything  they  could  to  raise  him  in  a  land with  better  opportunities.

growing  up,  he  was  a  decent  student  with  passing  grades:  mostly  b’s,  c’s  and  the  occasional  a’s  (  which  called  for  small  victories  with  chilean  desserts  and  a  milkshake  ).  alonzo  improved  the  more  he  attended  tutoring  sessions.  they  expected  more  from  him...  obviously.  as  one  parent  does.  his  strongest  subject  was  mathematics.  long  story  short,  he  tried  his  best  with  everything  he  did.

during  his  senior  year,  his  parents  noticed  that  since  math  was  his  strong  suit  so  they  suggested  he  should  get  into  an  architecture  degree—this  was  one  of  the  few  times  where  he  actually  agreed  with  his parents.  he  applied  to  several  universities  and  one  of  them  was:  usc  school  of  architecture.  let’s  just  say  he  couldn’t  let  this  opportunity  pass.  so  long,  mapleview;  hello  california  !  off  he  went.

several  years  had  passed,  alonzo  graduated  from  USC  with  a  bachelor’s  degree  in  architectural  design.  after  that,  he  spent  some  of  his  years   away  from  his  hometown,  living  in  california,  earning  himself  an  internship  with  a  top  tier  design  studio.  he  never  saw  it  coming.  he’d  worked  too  hard  to  be  where  he  was  and  he  wanted  more;  accomplish  more  than  he  sought  out  for.

of  course,  he’d  visit  his  parents  for  some  time  in  the  holidays  or  surprising  them  with  a  visit—  helping  them  with  anything  and  everything  they  needed.  he  felt  like  he  owed  it  to  them.

alonzo  met  his  future  ex-wife  while  she  was  an  intern.  they  got  on  very  well—  started  off  as  friends  until  they  eventually  fell  in  love  with  each  other.  it  was  bliss  and  married  only  a  year  and  a  half  after  dating.  they  decided  to  move  to  mapleview  after  he  found  out  his  mom  fell  ill.

alonzo  was  a  small  town  boy,  then  a  big  city  guy...  and  back  to  a  small  town  dude  a  little  over  a  decade  ago.  however,  the  circumstances  were  that  of  his  mother  and  his  responsibility  was  to  care  for  her,  look  after  her.  alonzo  was  eternally  grateful  that  she  supported  him.  no  matter  the  amount  of  struggles  they  had,  looking  after  his  mom,  it  was  always  rough  for  him...  all  of  them.

alonzo  and  pia  eventually  had  a  daughter,  elena.  not  only  was  he  a  busy  man  but  as  soon  as  he  became  a  father,  he  made  every  fiber  of  his  being  to  be  as  hands-on  &  100%  present  as  possible.  sure,  there  were  obstacles  along  the  way,  but  alonzo  sure  made  the  effort.  thankfully,  his  parents  and  his  mother  was  still  alive  to  welcome  their  first  grandchild  into  the  world—  still  pushing  through.  unfortunately,  some  years  later,  she  had  lost  her  battle  with  cancer.

alonzo  and  pia’s  marriage  started  to  deteriorate  and  decided  to  divorce.  they  had  found  out  she  had  fallen  pregnant  with  their  second  child,  a  son  by  name  of  mateo.  before  he  was  born,  they  decided  to  stay  together.  shortly  after  his  birth,  they  couldn’t  stay  together  just  for  the  kids.  they  amicably  decided  to  split  and  co-parent  their  kids.  he  and  his  ex-wife  remain  friends  to  this  day,  four  years  after  their  divorce.

adopted at a young age, natalie grew up on fair lane as part of a family that comes from old money. ( think rockefellers, fords, etc... it was all very stuffy, to say the least. )

put simply, natalie’s not too fond of her childhood. she always felt out of place in her upbringing. with a seemingly perfect older sister and by-the-books parents, nat’s impulsive, out-there nature clashed often with what was expected of her. she made a lot of mistakes, and many went unforgiven. 

as she grew older, it became more and more apparent that, well, she was the family disappointment. ( once she turned 16, her parents weren’t really afraid to communicate that to her either. ) taking her standing in stride, she moved out upon high school graduation, ditched college ( the one that her family wanted her oh-so badly to attend ), and started supporting herself independently.

natalie would never admit it aloud, but she harbors a lot of guilt surrounding her family situation. it doesn’t help that the town is teeny-tiny, and she seems to run into them ( or friends of theirs ) wherever she goes.

luckily, nat’s become a master deflector ( whether it be about her family or any topic she doesn’t want to talk about ). her go-to is breaking any tension with a witty joke or off-hand reference. it works ~75% of the time.

speaking of which... girl’s got a mouth. she can talk for hours on-end to practically anyone. her long-winded conversations are usually why she’s late to everything.

natalie LOVES her job. it’s the only one, so far, where her constant spontaneity has been appreciated. turns out, including a wrong but pretty flower in a bouquet is much better than putting a twist on a regular coffee order ( in her defense, the guy no doubt needed that splash of bailey’s in there anyway ). 

honestly, she would probably do very well in a city but has no desire to leave mapleview. even though her family would seem like reason enough to drive her away, nat feels like mapleview is her place. ( must add here that nat can be incredibly superstitious as well... probably has a random thing about karma and moving too far from her first home. )
