" still, because he'd offered his expertise, she peers over his shoulder behind the iron rail he's leveraged against, nodding to herself as if contemplating the words with a very real weight, though it is meant to be for show.

it catches her off guard,  to walk toe to toe with a man of his reputation.  at first, she blindly believes him to be an assassin.  [yet another nameless shadow attempting to cut her down even before she speaks.  it’s frightening to be the enemy in idea,  a woman hated by those she’s never even laid eyes on]   overly cautious & pridefully prepared,  when the first arrow is shot towards them,  it shocks her —   how quickly he stops it.    the first cut is the deepest,  the first save the ripest.   [ 𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗪 : 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗠𝗬 𝗦𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗢𝗥? ]    the grass along the road is lusciously grown,  green beneath her feet that reminds her of sanctuary.  of promised safety    but the true safety is by his side.   she’s never truly had a friend,  there are those that follow her,  those that devote to her,  &   those that would kill for her,   but the list of those that simply care for her beyond her title is almost nonexistent.  in her nightmares,  many familiar faces bury her six feet under,  but never him.  matthew walks alongside her in a step of respect  &  a step of adoration.  daenerys returns the favor with ease,  shoulders relaxed,  for a moment  :   she is no queen.  no khaleesi.  no mother of dragons.   simply daenerys.
