Ya know one of the original thoughts I played with abt Caleb groveling was him following reader around the world after she graduates and travels with a dance group, never approaching her directly but he leaves little paper airplanes for her with encouraging messages in them. They talk face to face on an airplane ride once and reader tells him point blank that he should consider them strangers and put what they have in the past, and after that this stubborn man takes it to heart where he will try to “run into her” at random places and introduce himself as a different character in each city she travels to (cute barista, a food delivery person, massage therapist, etc.). On her final stop of the tour he acts as a stage hand on set, finally getting to see her practice and dance on the daily. The night before the show a structural malfunction occurs and a stage light falls (I promise it’s not his fault), Caleb pushes reader out of the way just in time and is sent to the hospital in critical condition. (I contemplated making him die here 🤡) Reader is shaken after the incident and goes to the hospital after the performance. Zayne tells her that they managed to stabilize him but his right arm is completely gone. Reader visits him in the ICU while he’s still unconscious and breaks down, remembering how she felt in the aftermath of her accident, but at least she still had her leg. To her surprise, Caleb leaves the hospital without informing her or saying goodbye. He’s still traumatized by how much he fucked up before and afraid of being accused of using this incident to force reader to “owe” him now. Zayne tells her about what actually happened in high school. Hence commences another cat and mouse chase of this time reader trying to figure out where he went. Run into each other by accident on a summer night in Linkon City a year and a half later, reader nearly don’t recognize him with his new robot arm, but a biker swerves and knocks the groceries out of his arm, and she hears the clear sound of metal against metal. Caleb tries to pretend he doesn’t recognize reader/lost his memories but she tells him he doesn’t have to be scared. After all, she’s not a jerk like he was (oooo shots fired). Big tearful reunion, everyone can live happily ever after, the end.

Edit: LOL I know it’s canon (thank u kind souls for informing me) that Zayne listens to metal but dude both of his parents were doctors there is 0% chance he never felt pressure bc of that; the asian kid trauma is too real LMFAO
