My top 10 One Piece moments that always make me cry 😭 (no ranking, all equally devastating)
To celebrate One Piece Day, here’s a personal list of scenes that shattered me emotionally. No ranking, just heartbreak. They are all in chronological order if you want to avoid spoilers ;)
"Help me" (Nami)
Arlong Park is where One Piece really finds its rhythm. The way Nami breaks down and asks for help — and the crew just walks with her, no questions asked — will forever give me chills.
Laboon
My beloved whale. Laboon always makes me cry. The day Laboon and Brook reunite, I will personally create a lake of tears. I am not ready.
"I want to live!" (Robin)
Robin’s arc is one of my absolute favorites. The annihilation of her people, her thirst for truth and history, and the fact she doesn’t even value her own life… until that moment. When the crew burns the flag for her? Instant goosebumps. Epic doesn’t even cover it.
Going Merry’s farewell
What is there to say. We all cried for a boat. I first watched this over a decade ago, and I sobbed. Then rewatched it recently with my husband and sobbed again. It just never stops hurting.
Shabondy trauma
Honestly, this scene breaks me every time. Seeing the crew fall apart and Luffy scream in despair… It’s the first time they fail this hard. You feel it deep in your bones.
Ace’s death
Back when this wasn’t common knowledge, I really thought he’d make it. With so many fake-out deaths in OP, the fact this one sticks… it hit so hard. And the flashback that follows? Even worse. A collective trauma.
Fisher Tiger’s blood scene
His story is so symbolic of racial trauma. He tries to do better, to protect, to forgive — but also can’t stand the thought of accepting a transfusion from his oppressors. The complexity of that moment still haunts me.
Corazon’s death
Corazon is Kuma’s spiritual brother, I swear. The way he dedicated himself to Law, protected him, sacrificed himself… I cried like a baby over this one. Still do.
Rebecca & Kyros
Kyros, turned into a toy soldier, watching over his daughter who doesn’t even remember him — while the love of his life is gone. One of the best father-daughter duos in OP. Their arc gutted me.
Kuma’s backstory
One of the most tragic stories in the series. Kuma has always fascinated me, and discovering the full weight of his past in the manga was already crushing. The anime adaptation made it unbearable. One of the best characters in One Piece, hands down.

This list was made purely on instinct. It was so hard to choose! Special shoutout to other moments that shattered me: Usopp vs Luffy and Sanji vs Luffy. Both made me cry like a baby. And Brook and Chopper's flashbacks 🥲 But yeah, tried to choose 10... One Piece is peak emotion !
